I've never seen a legit Finn cocking knob ring. All I've seen were added here. I think the cocking knob pictured is just a normal variation. I seen nothing unusual with it
+1 The cocking rings you see on Mosins right now started showing up a few years ago. A add on part. I have never seen any used by the Finns myself.

I like to see a few different shots o the above cocking know. It's so poor of a photo, I can't see any difference in it and a normal cocking ring. Are we talking the "edge removed" on a bit of it? if so, that is normal.

The M44 Joe posted is from Kevin Carney's collection and has been offered at shows since earlier this year for around $400 and something. It has markings on it that suggest the ownership of the Jewish Defense Forces and I think what has been stopping people from buying it is the stable crack in the area of the butt plate screw. I have been resisting the desire to fix it which I kind of think would be easy because of the historic value of the gun to begin with and the fact that the Arabic paint marks could be harmed by the glue or me. We always move that gun around from show to show in one of the thicker gun socks I use for shipping and so far just the one original cracked and missing piece of paint is all the damage I see. Neat gun and I really wonder why no one has grabbed it as the bore and mechanicals are great on it? Needs a niche buyer I guess? This area of Mosin collecting needs a leader to start chasing some of the little idiosyncrasies found on these guns down a bit. Bill :D

I concur and I also have a ring I added to my hunting Mosin. Just a split key ring welded onto the back of the bolt knob. The bolt knob came out of a scrap pile at my buddies shop and took a bunch of sandblasting to make it even usable again. The action was a mismatched unit without a stock I found in a shop years ago laying under the shop owners work table. The blue cleaned off great after a Mineral spirits bath for a long time and now I have it installed in a dreaded ABS stock I took off a saved rifle with a repro military sling and Big Mikes quick connects. So another thrown away pile of parts costing me less than $50 has a life shooting again. May not be my cup of tea how I would like to do it but at least the rifle has a life again and it shoots pretty well too. I have found on all those ABS stocks I have turned in to range shooters for people they tend to shoot maybe one or two shots on POA and then wander because of the ABS stock attachment to the action being poor and inconsistent in comparison to a normal wood military stock. Another thing to remember when you start destroying a Milsurp! Bill ;mywink;
