Best thing is to just shoot it and see how it shoots. I have seen some sorry barrels shoot OK.Oldgringo wrote:Hello, Old Gringo here
New to the forum idea, if I don't answer I will try to as I figure this out
Just recently bought a m44, thought barrel looked OK but now not sure
Barrel doesn't appear to be counter bored, although rifling is very thin at the crown

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Hi, folks, my name (real, legal name believe it or not) is Smiles. I live on some land outside of Athens, Ohio. I just came home with my first Mosin ever tonight. It is a georgeous Izhevsk 91/30 "red letter." I honestly don't see any signs of it being fired since it was refurbished. I am a total newbie to Mosins, but I can tell you already that I'm in love with these guns! I have plenty of questions about my new milsurp, and I will ask them in future posts, but I also have some questions about one that I am considering purchasing at an up-and-coming auction. I will save those questions for separate posts, though, as I understand that this is just a "Hi, I'm here," type of post.
Thanks for all the good Mosin conversations that you all have here, and I am actually thankful for the "strict" rules that I read before I registered. I look forward to many good conversations in the future with you all!

Hello my name is Jordan Colburn (you may call me anything you wish as long as its not late to dinner). I just purchased my first mosin nagant yesterday, I am not 100% on what exactly she is that is partially why I am here.
From what I can tell she is a 1925 izhevsk made with a 48 1/2" over all length. forced matching numbers a flat leaf rear sight and a globe front sight, I also got with her a crate of surplus ammo (800 rounds) and a bayonet. any help would be awsome. I am also not sure if this is the right spot on this forum to ask this.
Thank you everyone and I am happy and excited to be here.

Welcome all new members, Vincent, we have many members here who have M39's, it's a common enough thing for us to see a new member with a new to them M39. You however may be the very first new member to show up with a new M39 who is actually from Finland. Congratulation's on the new M39, did you buy this directly from your government?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thank you for the welcome! I'm here because I won a M91/30 awhile back and I've been trying to find everything out about it that I can. It has become one of my favorite rifles, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo7qMycI_9M

Hi everyone,
I collected military surplus rifles about ten years ago. I haven't been actively collecting for the past five or six. The surplus market was getting a bit pricey for my tastes. Anyways!.....fast forward to NOW. My inlaws are cleaning out their house for an expected move in the near future, and my father in law gave me his whole collection. He gave me 23 guns, and 15 are Mosin Nagants. I plan on researching all of them, and I am sure I could use everyone's help in identifying and cataloging them. I am looking forward to it!

Now that is a nice gift, any help we can provide just open a new topic on the Mosin forum about whatever rifle is in question and we will see what we can do. Welcome to the board, pricy is right, I hate paying big money for things I once bought for a few bucks, my mental cash register is frozen in 1990. It's easier to say screw it when you already have a sizable collection as I do, lucky for todays dealers that there are still new guys around who will pay todays price because otherwise they have no milsurps to play with. They will make no money off of you, not when Pop's is giving you guns 23 at a time for freeFledge wrote:Hi everyone,

I'll say. And if he collected these a while back they're probably a bit different than what we see now so you might have some really interesting pieces there. Researching can be fun but this is where to find out exactly what they are. Just make a post for each one with clear closeup pictures and these guys will tell you exactly what each one is. Welcome aboard too.Junk Yard Dog wrote:Now that is a nice gift, any help we can provide just open a new topic on the Mosin forum about whatever rifle is in question and we will see what we can do. Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
I am guessing he acquired most of it 15-20 years ago. He used to have a ton of German guns and uniforms, but sold it off to take the wife and daughter in vacation to England 20 years ago. He still had the surplus itch and started buying the cheaper Russian guns. I wish I would have been around when he had the German guns.
