So, I got out a little late; Red went to a concert last night, got home at 2:30AM. We got out to SWMBO's folk's farm, and walked a bit. Kicked up a doe, it went into the next patch of woods. Red and I did a pincers movement , with me driving through the brush. Whom should be on the other side of the brush and get the deer? Red's brother, Skipper. I met him in the middle and said " I expect some venison from that." We joined him and the group he was hunting with for a small drive of the patch of woods just behind the house. The last bunch to get there saw 3 coyotes in the field by where we were going to hunt. I and my sons were the standers, the rest drove. It didn't take long before the one on the edge of the cornfield up from where I was started shooting. He'd kicked up a coyote, and I missed the first shot, (little rusty at running shots) , be he ran toward me, I got him at 20-25 yards. One in the lungs put him down.
The trophy:
That's Skipper behind me; Red took the pic. the other guy is one of Skipper's hunting buddies. I got the coyote with the .223 Axis and my handloads of 55 gr. Ballistic tip varmints. The doe is Skipper's, one of three he's gotten so far today.
I enjoyed getting out and hunting with my sons on opener.

Roasted coyote? Let me guess, it tastes just like chicken.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

No, it tastes really bad, actually. I gave that one to Skipper for the pelt, he hunts them and coons for the pelts.
I ate coyote once. I stayed up at a friend's cabin the week between the weekends when they were up there bear hunting. (I was bear hunting, too.) The food I brought with me for the week lasted until Tuesday night. I caught some crappies Wednesday, but Thursday evening I was mighty hungry, and a coyote that had been coming in to my baitpile all week started looking tasty. So I shot it, and took a leg back to the cabin. (left the rest on the baitpile.) Cooked up a round steak, and even using a stick of butter and lots of ketchup didn't improve the taste!
Fortunately, my friends showed up Friday about noon, so we went into town and ate lunch and bought some decent food.

Well, I did get some venison from Skipper after all. He stopped by yesterday for our gift exchange, and brought the backstraps from the deer I helped him get, a couple #'s of bacon-venison burger, some venison brats, and a venison roast! I gave him the Rem. 740 .308 he has been trying to buy from me for the past 4 months.... His Mom got him a Smart TV, and a deer stand. Red got a deer stand, too (The double wide model, he's a big boy!), and a PS4. I got Pepper and BACON Jam, we are going to try it out in abought an hour when my sister gets here......

Entropy, if you get hit by a car, shot, defenestrated, or maligned in any way; it couldn't be an accident. Nice shootin Tex, come out and shut some up around me, ya hear?
Things could be worse. Work to keep from finding out how much worse.
