Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hi guys (and gals): Been a military firearms collector for nearly 50 years. Bought and sold a lot of stuff over the years. Was even a Class 3 dealer at one time, now have a C&R. Still own anything from bolt actions to belt feds. Started looking and researching for something a little unique and interesting about a year ago and found Mosin Nagants. Bought my first one a couple of weeks ago at a local show. Thought I had a pretty good basic knowledge of Mosins and bought what I thought was a nice standard Izhevsk 91/30 right as the show was closing. Didn't look at the rifle real close. Still get the" buy it quick fever" after all these years. Got home and looked a little closer. Turns out the rifle is a 1929 Tula ex-Dragoon re-furb hex, all matching in excellent shape! Nice way to start out! Pics will follow later. Now I'm looking for a nice PU sniper, so back to the research. Thanks for this valuable site for rookies like me!

Good evening everyone!
Well, you can call me COOLDUDEGAMER & I am new to the forum. I own several firearms in which one of them is a Chinese Type 56 SKS w/ a serial in the 211xxx range. I am thinking about buying a Mosin in the future and one of my local dealers does have a few Type 53s so, that is always an option.
I hope that everyone has a great evening!

Greetings, I bought my first Mosin rifle almost 13 years ago. I have since added several more. I hope to use this forum as a source for accurate information on my current rifles and my future rifles.

New Member. Bought my first Mosin in about 1998 for $49.00 and put in the safe not knowing much about it. In the past 5 years I have acquired a couple more. Thanks for having me.

Hi all,
I recently purchased my first Mosin, which appears to be a Tula 1938 Sniper, round receiver with a top Pe/Pem scope mount. From my initial internet research it appears to be original, with a post-war refurbished stock. I'll be posting pictures here shortly and I'd love to know what some people with more knowledge and experience think.
GlibRemark
When two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for one side to be simply wrong.

Hi I'm Norm aka Stormin. I have owned a couple of Mosin's for several years but am just now learning about the history behind them. Found an SA marked 1939 Izhevsk today at a pawn shop - might go back to add it to the collection but haven't decided yet (will look around to see what the range is for one of these). Looking forward to being a member...
Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hi new member. I do have a question. I have a Russian m91/30. While cleaning, I came across some numbers on the under side of the barrel. What are these?
Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hi name is Steve. I basically joined to find out some info on these rifles. Basically, I know the serial numbers located on the butt, barrel, and bolt but most are worn out. While cleaning, I took it apart, and on the bottom of the barrel/receiver is another stamped number. Is this another serial number location and if not what is it?

sighting a mosin
My 91/30 used to be a dead accurate rifle, until it got dinged around a bit, (still in great shaped, hardly not a scratch or ding on it.) and I wanna know how do I sight it back into place? it is shooting low and to the right.
Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hey everybody, thanks for having me, just joined the site because I just purchased my first Mosin-Nagant 91/31 rifle and honestly I would be grateful if you all would share your experience with me and let me know if I have a BIG problem, or not. (Hopefully not.)
I purchased a 1943 Tula Mosin-Nagant, the bolt, barrel, magazine and bayonet all have matching numbers and overall it was in great shape. I removed the cosmoline from the rifle and cleaned / lubed it, then while cleaning it I looked down into the chamber and saw something odd, it didn't look right, so I put a finger in there and felt around and it was a bit jagged. I'm worried it has a cracked chamber or something, I'm not sure, but I'm a complete noob when it comes to Mosin's and don't know anything really other than the history. If someone could please take a look, I'd appreciate it. I'll try and post a separate thread if the mods will allow me to post pics or link to pics, hopefully so I know I'm brand new but this is not a troll / a joke to me I really need to find out if this beautiful rifle is going to be able to shoot or not.
Thanks
-Jay

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hello ladies and gentlemen.
I'm fritz, you can find me on Calguns mostly. Currently living in the camp pendleton area (active duty marine), from NJ. Picked up my first mosin from jail on wednesday, got her from another calguns member. Mostly shoot IDPA and AR carbine, but needed a battle-rifle caliber, and found this old girl for a steal.
Down to business... she's a 1942 vintage 91/30 made by izhevsk. Judging by my quick research of markings, it was refurbished in a factory (has a type stamp). All matching (not forced) serials. Excellent, if not immaculate bore, really deep, strong rifling, fresh-cut looking throat. Amazing bluing, no rust I can see except some under the butt plate. Cosomoline was all removed before I bought it. Pretty smooth bolt cycling, decent trigger. Almost no wear marks on the metal. None of the screws were seized (took the trigger and interruptor/ejector off to clean), no marks on the bolt face. Stock is pretty nice, seems like the finish is worn in handling areas. Cleaned the bore briefly (just a couple brush runs and clp patches to see where I was at), got almost nothing out of it on the patches. Also included in the deal was an original LOOKING (again, I know nothing) sling, and some ammo I only assume is ball, brass cases, sealed in 30rd bundles of butcher paper, head stamp (I forget) over 77.
She has the circle K, and concentric circle stamps, so combined with bore quality and trigger feel, I'm expecting good accuracy.
I'm thinking she may have fought hard in the war and got a refurb before storage. Otherwise, I read the markings wrong and she was almost never used. I think this example of a rifle is "too good" for what I paid. Very happy with my purchase. Tomorrow I'll post pictures after firing her for the first time, especially some groups and the stamps.
One area of concern I have, is the muzzle crown is FRESH. Bare steel, no rust. Was this typical of factory fresh, or refurbs? I'd expect the factory to have blued it. My little knowledge of marking, doesn't suggest it was a cut down m91.
Originally I planned to refinish the stock in a Russian red style stain with low-gloss, high polish the bolt, and color fill the stamps white, red on sight ladder... the rules on this board have suggested I do not do so. Maybe I will, maybe I won't, if I do, I'll keep it off this board out of respect. Even then, I feel my plans would be in good taste and respect of history.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, Old Gringo here
New to the forum idea, if I don't answer I will try to as I figure this out
Just recently bought a m44, thought barrel looked OK but now not sure
Barrel doesn't appear to be counter bored, although rifling is very thin at the crown
