Replacement parts for 28/30
Hey everyone. I'm posting this up in the hopes that someone can direct me somewhere I can pick up some small pieces for my 28/30. First are the sling eschuteons(?). While I was out of town for a while I left my guns in the care of a friend after telling him to clean them while I was gone. Evidently he elected to take it upon himself to remove the sling bits, and now a screw is missing and none of them will stay in the wood. I bought the rifle with an eschuteon missing anyways, so I figure I may as well take this opportunity to replace the set (assuming they'll stay in the wood). Plus, google has been no help regarding slings. I'm looking for a historically correct sling to mount as well, but have received tons of conflicting information. Does anyone know a place I could visit to grab the sling bits, as well as provide some pictures to show something at least possible? What about wire hangers? I don 't see any in old photos but have been hearing about them in the pages I've been reading.

Replacing sling extrusion plate is not part of any responsible cleaning and allocating the option of that to another non-owner of a rifle is totally irresponsible on your part I am afraid in my eyes. The damage is done and if you are lucky such sling plates and screw are available fro maybe Apex Gun parts or Liberty Tree. Replacement will now always stick out like a sore thumb and you will always have a value loss from such things. Many new collectors today buy rifle missing or having lacking quality in many Finnish parts these days and fail to consider what that replacement will cost them in parts and value. I can preach this till I am blue in the face and it has little effect so it seems. They all end up with a rifle lacking in collector value or worth more in parts than the rifle will ever be worth. I see this over and over and eventually see the disenchanted former collector selling the rifle off for very little of what they have in it and moving to another hobby.
Afraid I will seem callous for saying this but I have most of the parts you want but will not sell them to you for less than I can find replacement parts at today's prices. I count this as being a responsible and wise collector but many dealers have different thoughts less principled I am afraid. Good Luck! Bill

I thought he was smarter too. I still have them, all minus the one screw so there is that at least.

I think if we are all honest we will admit to indiscretions of over cleaning at sometimes in our life. The key is to admit and learn from it. One basic thing we all suffer from is our total failure at times to see this is a 100+ year old rifle and it is not supposed to be perfect in anyway. As humans we want it better or perfect and that just shouldn't happens many times in collecting rifles. Sooooo When we should leave things alone we have to improve stuff. Just not right I am afraid/ BillFjordforder wrote:I thought he was smarter too. I still have them, all minus the one screw so there is that at least.
