I have a 1973 Marlin Original Golden-39M that I inherited from my dad shortly before his death in 2011. He bought the gun new when we were stationed at Zaragoza AB, Spain. It's the rifle I learned to shoot with growing up.
After I inherited it I tore it down, cleaned and oiled it, it had been stored in less than ideal conditions. Took it out to the gun range this past week-end and it keep jamming, after 4 rounds I put it away, and we shot the other guns.
The issue was when the lever was cycled, it would not go back up, even after several attempts. Would have to unload it, and remove the jammed round and try it again. Like I said after 4 rounds and dang near 20 minutes I was done with it for the day.
Trying to figure out/diagnose what is/was causing this to happen so I can fix it and take the "Ole Girl" out and give her a proper work-out.
So any ideals of what parts/things to look at or what might be the issue?
Here's a picture from my gun book of the "Ole Girl" after a proper cleaning. That sling has been on her since 1973, and the scope my dad installed sometime in the 90's to take care of critters in his yard.

Re: Jamming Marlin
First thing is to check to see if the flat spring in the top of the receiver is there. It is supposed to align the shell with the chamber. That is really the only easy fix that I know of. 39A's of that vintage usually work without a hitch. That said, the lever and the bolt have to be timed right. this is controlled by how the contact surfaces have been ground and mated up. Check on http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/ and http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/fo ... .php?f=269 before you send it for repair. Don't give up on your 39a. when it works, it is the nicest .22 will ever shoot.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I see that you have the Mountie model. Quite desirable.
