unissued Yugo SKS
Earlier this week we got in one of the unissued Yugo SKSs in the shop that both Classic and Southern Ohio Guns have for $429.00. I have never seen or held a nicer SKS. It would almost be a sin to shoot one, almost. The bluing is a rich deep blue and the stock is Beech I think and almost flawless. The each come with a booklet in a hard bound book with the history of who did what and when, it's in Yugoslavian but it is there.. It even has a chart showing how it shot in testing. Check your local gun shops to see if they have one you can fondle for yourself. Every SKS collector has to have one of these.

Re: unissued Yugo SKS
I remember buying mine (thru the shop) for $159. Kinda regret selling it, but I had a Norinco at the time, and the Yugo was way heavier and wasn't chrome-lined. I still have the book.

I bought one ten years ago, it's still in it's grease stashed away unfired. Mine didn't come with a book, not that I remember anyway.

Re: unissued Yugo SKS
they look pretty but they are not broken in. My first SKS was an unissued Yugo from SOG. The trigger was really gritty and there were machining scraps in the bolt and receiver. Caused me a lot of aggravation to get it to shoot right. My best shooter is one of those well worn early chinese SKS. IT looks a little ratty but shoots like a dream.

Re: unissued Yugo SKS
My buddy gave me the heads up on Classic Firearms getting in some crates of these. I watched their youtube video on them and they look incredible. I really need to get one of these rifles before they're gone. I am a gunsmith but not working at the moment due to having to get back surgery because someone hit me while I was waiting at a set of lights. They were going 70 mph on a service road (next to a highway) and they were texting while driving. Luckily I have an incredible wife who is also in to firearms. This year I have made some big purchases and bought a lot of tools for my shop so I can't really afford to shell out the money for their Yugo's. I am going to sell some stuff on Gunbroker this week so I can come up with the money to buy one. They look too good to pass up and I will be severely bummed if I can't get one before they are out of stock and gone for good. Wish me luck lol. Hope you all can get one before they're gone.

Re: unissued Yugo SKS
When I saw this, it made me wonder if your rifle was an InterOrdnance import, because I have read in a number of places that some of their Yugo's had basically disgraceful machining, with tooling marks and shavings inside as you described. It's disappointing to hear this, I love Yugo's myself but if my first SKS had been like that, I might not feel that way about them. I saw a picture of one once, an I/O import, that looked like the extractor recess had been cut with a dremel after the barrel was seated.polymerase2 wrote: My first SKS was an unissued Yugo from SOG. Sorry to hear about your accident; They run the ads about texting & driving all the time, but I still see it. I drive like everyone is out to hit me; comes from years of riding bikes.
I thought all the drunken monkeys were building WASR's not Yugo SKS's.I saw a picture of one once, an I/O import, that looked like the extractor recess had been cut with a dremel after the barrel was seated.

Just a note for you guys having to wait to buy one. I don't know about Classic but SOG bought an obscene number of these.

Indeed, and I would add to that, you might have some expectation of something along these lines..Longcolt44 wrote:Just a note for you guys having to wait to buy one. I don't know about Classic but SOG bought an obscene number of these.

That's rollover "B's" right there folks, the late build B's, and I can't speak on their condition first hand, but my expectation would be that they should be cream-of-the-crop top shelf stuff, and possibly genuinely unissued at least with some specimens. My theory fwiw is that due to the sourcing (Slovenia) they weren't trotted out for the Bosnian War. Bosnia and Herzegovina had to break into the arsenals for rifles like these to get properly armed, but not so for Croatia, Serbia, and maybe Slovenia, as it's a northern territory of the former Yugoslavia.
I had a chance to look over the labeling of about 4 crates, and they all contained consecutively serialized rifles. Good times, man.

Re: unissued Yugo SKS
I have had several members ask about the condition of these rifles. I took the attached pictures of one we have in the shop. The import stamp is, P W ARMS via Zastava 7.62x39 Yugo. Zastava is located in Serbia So who knows the trail they took to get here. I included a couple pictures of the booklet that has all the information on who did what and when as well as the test firing results.

Outstanding ! It was the "S" block that they made one of the few changes they ever did, they changed the gas ring from squared to tapered and with "S" you may find either. I see in this case it's tapered, and the logbook still has the original build date in it which indicates it never underwent a heavy refurb. The book would also have a record of the times it was taken from storage, inspected, and put back into storage. These rifles and books represent a great opportunity to tighten up the knowledge base of YSKS, thanks for the pics LC

Re: unissued Yugo SKS
They were test fired and put in crates, never issued. Some of the books are hard cover and some soft bound. If you can swing one do it, they are going fast. I haven't forgot the other deal, just been busy.redhat10 wrote:Like unissued condition?

Re: unissued Yugo SKS
How cool is this crate! I own the first one from this crate. It's currently disassembled and cleaned from all the cosmoline and waiting for me to decide on the stock treatment. Leaning towards Tung Oil and trying to figure out who's to use. Just stumbled across this picture at work today and the number seemed so familiar to me. Just checked and it is.SKhiSm 59-66 wrote:Indeed, and I would add to that, you might have some expectation of something along these lines..Longcolt44 wrote:Just a note for you guys having to wait to buy one. The stock needs nothing. Tung oil is a finish and will destroy the innocence of these unissued rifles. Oil the metal parts and wipe the stock down with some lemon oil if you really feel the need to do something to the stock.

That seems like a simple alternative. Any particular brand?Longcolt44 wrote:The stock needs nothing. Tung oil is a finish and will destroy the innocence of these unissued rifles. I bought mine at Krogers. I just looked at the bottle and the label is gone. Look in the furniture polish and you will see it. A little goes a long way and it keeps the wood from drying out.

Thanks Entropy. I posted a reply earlier but maybe it just didn't show up from me probably hitting a wrong button lol. My wife agreed with me on getting one of these Yugo's while they were still around. So I ordered a hand select yesterday and they shipped it today. When I called Classic Firearms, I asked them what time I was looking at for it to be shipped and they said about 5 - 7 days because of all the orders coming in for these fine SKS's. I was surprised that I got an email today from Classic saying it has already shipped so I am guessing that the majority of the orders that are backed up are for non hand select orders. They told me that the orders are starting to slow down now and they are thinking that they should have them in stock for 6 more weeks. Now I am hoping to be able to purchase a second one before they are all gone.
