Torkarev SVT-40
Torkarev SVT-40
I am on a Russian Sniper Rifle group on Facebook, it's in 90% Russian but I can get some of it with Google Translate. Anyway, someone posted 2 of them and boy do they look sweet.

An SVT-40 fell into my lap last Spring. It is not a sniper, but it is sure a fun rifle to shoot.JoeR wrote:I am on a Russian Sniper Rifle group on Facebook, it's in 90% Russian but I can get some of it with Google Translate. Anyway, someone posted 2 of them and boy do they look sweet.

Re: Torkarev SVT-40
Yea, and he got it at a sweet price also, but these days expect to pay near, or at a grand for the regular SVT40, a sniper, if you can turn one up will go for much more, and I am sure there are fakes out there.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Torkarev SVT-40
Figures they are rare and expensive. My taste and my wallet do not go together.
If I ever had some real gun cash I'd have to go with a Garrand, not Russian but they have to be on everyones gun bucket list.
I have bought some clunkers in my rookie days which are still going on but I got rid of the trash and have only real stuff including a PU Sniper so if I could get a Garrand I'd have two of the crown jewels IMHO. I'd like one of the SVT=40's and also an Enfield Jungle Carbine and , oh the list goes on like it does for everyone here.

Re: Torkarev SVT-40
An SVT-40 would be a great rifle to own. Someone once described the rifle as a military oddity and I think that sums up the SVT-40 about right. The rifle doesn't exactly have a rich history but it has an interesting one...plus its got plenty of cool Factor. Would you call it the grandfather of the AK-47? It's certainly on my short list but the price tag keeps me away. From what I read they can be a real bear to detail strip.

Re: Torkarev SVT-40
SVT40's are on gunbroker all the time, all it tales to own one is money and a dealer to transfer the weapon, while the sniper variations are rare, the regular Soviet refurbished SVT40 is not.
The Garand is easy, go here-
http://odcmp.com/
The AK is the start of it's line, the SVT40 was preceded by the SVT38, the Swedish AG42 Ljungman, and it's offshoot the Egyptian Hakim and Rasheed both benefit from design ideas "borrowed" from the SVT40.

Re: Torkarev SVT-40
I found mine last year too, well below the going rate. If you want to bring a firing line to a stop, sling 10 rounds down range from a SVT. It's fun to see people check their ear protection to see if it's working. They do draw a crowd.

Hmmmmmm. Just add money ?
Have many forum members got theirs from there? Seems like the way to get one from a trusted source.
Thanks for the info, I'll bookmark it.

I glanced at the site where you can buy a Garrand, looks like several hoops to jump through. I didn't look at every little detail since I know I won't be in the market for a while.

They are just formalities realy. You have to join a club or the NRA and i think a C&R license covers the other dohickey ya gotta do. I know guys that did it and it wasn't to hard.

The SVT's are cool, maybe someday it will fit the budget.
The M1 through the CMP is easier to get then you think. The "hoops" have bcome much easier and far outweigh the costs of trying to find a nice condition shooter on the regular market. I have bought alot from them in the past, so if any one needs to be talked through it, just PM me. I walked a co-worker through it just 6 months ago, if he could do it, trust me, anyone can!!!

I Have a 1941 Russian SVT40, I bought it a little over a year ago. I found it at a pawn shop and they originally wanted $995.00 dollars for it, but I got it for $750.00 dollars. How do you tell if your SVT40 is a sniper version ?.

Re: Torkarev SVT-40
You know something Ghost, I forget, I have an SVT40 also, not a sniper of course, got it back when they first started coming in in the early 90's. I never gave much thought to the SVT snipers, because of the expense of the SVT I don't think anybody is faking SVT snipers just now, but you never know.
