Safe way to preserve stock?

Post by Synack »

Question... I recently picked up another Chinese SKS from SOG, I'm extremely happy with it. Sighting it in was a kind of a bear though; The conscript that had it before me was apparently trying to shoot down things in low earth orbit.

I actually like the trashed stock, all I did was wipe it down with a mineral spirits soaked rag while I was cleaning the metal.

With so much shellac missing would there be a safe way to treat the wood? Just worried about leaving it literally dry.

Just lemon oil? Regular furniture polish?

Thanks for any advice.

Lemon oil, that rifle now lives a cushy retirement in your gun safe, the stock will be just fine.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

+1.

And everyone knows the best way to shoot down things in low earth orbit with an SKS is hold it sideways, with the right side facing up, and try to knock them down with the cases......
