.22 Mossbergs anyone?
I guess now I'm collecting Mossberg .22's. I have had the 46M (b) for some time now, the other 3 have found my home in the last 3 months. These Mossbergs are some if not the best shooters made this side of full blown .22 target rifles. The series of rifles have duplicates in the 1940's U.S. Shooting teams and are stamped U.S. With the flaming bomb. These are the civilian rifles. The 51M (a) made from 1939 until 1946. It is a semi automatic with ammunition fed through a tube in the butt stock to the receiver. The 46M (b) was made from 1940 until 1945. It is a bolt action with ammunition fed through a tube under the barrel. This model has a unique full Mannlicher type stock. The 46B-B was made from 1938 to 1949. It is a bolt action with ammunition fed through a tube running through the butt stock from the butt plate. Last we have a model 151M-B made in 1946 and 1947. This is a semi auto and is fed ammunition from a tube under the barrel. It too has a Mannlicher full stock. All these rifles are factory drilled for the micrometer adjustable peep sights and scope rails as well as several different front and rear sights. With he exception of the 46B-B the front sights have 5 different posts you can change to fit your shooting style. I guess I'm going to have to see what models I am missing.

Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
I have a couple of them hanging around now, they are good shooters, watch the semi auto. I had one that would empty it's mag suddenly, I sold that one off for parts years back.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
Those 51s are infamous for that. If they are worn, dirty or not assembled correctly they will sometimes shoot bursts. My buddy had one when we were kids. We thought it was cool. Not so much these days. I have a few Mossbergs as well. They are good shooters. Here are links to pics of a couple of them.Junk Yard Dog wrote:I have a couple of them hanging around now, they are good shooters, watch the semi auto. Very nice 22's....
My first rifle I owned was a Mossberg 320B single shot target rifle in 1961. I was 8 years old and shot competition at a local range In San Leandro, CA.

Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
I'd love to collect them, but I couldn't afford to shoot them right now!
I have a Western Field 93M-497A, basically a 42 or 44. It was my Grandpa's, and I put a '50's scope and base on it,similar to the one on your 51M(a), found 'em at a gun show for $10. Right now it's a single shot, because my son has lost three magazines for it! It takes a 7 (or 15) round detachable box mag. It is an accurate rifle, he used it for 4-H, and won overall twice with it, but lost the next year when he decided to use my 10/22. Ironically, he lost to a kid who borrowed the Western Field!
Nice collection; I note prices on these rifles are starting to increase as collector interest grows in the last 5 years or so.

Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
This one belongs to my dad and was very helpful on the farm when I was a kid. I think it's a model 42 of some type. It was used for most everything but hunting on the farm, shooting chicken heads off for mom to dad keeping the local hawks at bay. When ever there was trouble dad grabbed the Mossberg or a 37 Winchester 12 gauge.
As you can see in the picture the stock has a nail repair from dad using his military skills while taking a dog out killing chickens in the hen house.
He shot the dog then came down on it with the butt stock to finish it off.... dang it dad, that's not a M1 Garand...

Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
Getting caught up on my rimfire reading. This Mossberg is a real good looking rifle. Nice family history too.
Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
I've seen a bunch of .22s here.
Winchester 86 w/ peep sight.
Springfield single shot .22
Several Remington's.

He was better offhand with it than many kids did prone....

My first firearm, and only Mossberg.
Model 320B, single shot target.

I put a lot of rounds down range with that rifle, and won a few metals....(1961)

Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
Very cool Dolk. 1961 was a great year. Oh yeah, that is when I was born!
Re: .22 Mossbergs anyone?
I need to pull my Mossy out of the safe and get a few pics. I don't even remember the model number.
It has the front loading tube mag that holds 17 long rifle rounds, and the T shaped bolt handle. The factory sights are long gone. I gave a buddy $50 after seeing what it could do at the range. I clamped it down solid to the bench and ran half a box of CCI Mini Mags through it at about 25 yards. I could have covered the hole with a pop bottle cap! I scoped it and it is now the most accurate gun in the safe. They sure built them good back then!
