M 1888 problem

Post by berkmberk1 »

Hi all,

I just acquired a 1890 Amberg M1888/05. This thing is seriously greased up. Its gross just to handle it. I decided to give it a thorough going over even before I took pictures. I have it stripped just about completely....all but one part.....that's where I need help. First, I can remember what the part is called...magazine cutoff? interrptor? The only schematics I can find are for the M1888. The part wasn't added until the /05. Anyway, its the screw/leaf spring assembly on the left of the receiver just in front of the bolt catch (see sample pic) The problem I have is the screw broke! :big shock: It is really in there and in the process of applying some muscle, the screw head split in two!. I'll just have to have someone remove it, but I don't remember what the part is called so I can start looking for a replacement. Can anyone help? Does anyone have one???

In a Collector's Guide to the German Gew. 88 "Commission" Rifle, Paul S. Scarlata, calls it a spring loaded cartridge retaining lip. It was inserted into the left receiver wall to hold cartridges in the magazine.

I'd try Liberty Tree, Numrichs, etc.

Good luck.
