What you will receive is a PU sniper rifle still in sniper configuration. Yours you can add a base, mount and scope later if you like

Unlike "thughe's" rifle which is a ex-sniper rifle not still in sniper configuration. It is no longer a sniper rifle and if it is re-snipered, it can be seen and the value will drop a bit. Re-snipering is a permanent alteration.

I have two and am extremely happy with them. Got a 44 izhevsk for my first one and then called and talked to Mark there and he dug through the last of them to find me a 42 izhevsk which was quite a find (this was back in November). He also found me two hex receiver m44's. You won't be disappointed. I have not gotten either completed as I have had base fitting issues (the 44 hasn't fit either izhevsk base that I own but both of them fit my 42...but the stock on the 42 is cut just so that that base won't fit with the stock on it. I bought a laminate sniper stock and that one may almost fit not sure it's close...but it has some barrel band spring stubs stuck in there good I can't get out. Gonna take a soldering needle and heat up the metal to see if that will help knock them out...then I'll put my 42 in it.) I also have a 3rd mount and base coming from Russian and a Tula base I am buying too...one of them buggers is gonna fit.

Uberjon, do you have the measurements on the pins from centerline to c/l? i read that there are several different bases to fit these rifles? I hope to be able to match the c/l to base , with-out buying several samples? I ordered 2 pins and two screw type mounting??Will you tell me where you bought your scope base parts?..I had one reference to a Demitre?? who sells real russian stuff, and one source for a repo set...I am torn between the risk of older set not being anygood, or needing serious repair, and the use of a shooter set that is repo? All this to keep busy while waitng on delivery of rifle..

No plans to "re-sniper", I bought mine to shoot as-is with the iron sights for competition in CMP High Power matches. I normally compete with my K31 or M1 but wanted a new platform to add some variety. (I've already got a PU for the Vintage Sniper matches)

I can measure yes. Dmitry is my source for a lot of stuff as the most recent base I got was from him. I highly recommend him. The other was from an ebay auction from the guy that owns a popular website that sells Mosins and his site is named after the wood box they come in but don't want to mention it as I don't believe they are a sponsor. If one of my two will fit I will gladly sell you mine also. It wouldn't have the necessary screws youd have to have to mount it you'd have to buy screws. I also have a repro mount and base without pin holes at all I'd sell for what I paid which would be 60 shipped...you'd have to drill your own Pin holes but you'd be sure it fits. It's a chinese repro set. Cheap but solid.

You mean The Mosin Crate? He's a member on here. We don't have sponsors just advertisers. We have some really good advertisers and most are good friends to us but it's different here then other forums that get pissy about mention other vendors.

Okay, the Samco Yugo sniper rifle came in..The metal is pretty nice, the stock is almost firewood..A shame it had to be from the bottom of the pile..It is an 1944 inzy , and surprise it has a matching original bolt....I am trying to seal the cracks back with gel superglue so I can shoot it....the stock came from a much later sniper-rifle and fit so poorly it cracked at the wrist, behind the tang...At least i have a genuine target rifle now..if my son visits, I will try to get a few photos posted..

Sorry for replying to an older thread. What are people's thoughts on the SAMCO ex-sniper with the filled holes like Todd acquired above? Is this a typical refurb? Is it something worth picking up for the current price of $250? Also, I read somewhere that these types of ex-snipers were sniper rifles that became too inaccurate for sniper use anymore, so where re-purposed. Any truth to that?

Sorry for the possibly dumb questions, I'm trying to learn here so will display plenty of ignorance.

Thanks!

Hi, Not a Dumb question, I had read the same items about x- snipers and their duty cycle..Why not go ahead and spend a few dollars more to get a sniper..I paid the price for the premium version..Whether I got enough for my money was the debate...But to my surprise it did come with the original marked bolt, and very good rifling......Good luck on a decision, and the "cracked stocks".....I have not read of anyone getting a-shot out ex-sniper....

I did a original base and scope on mine.Even if the measured base is right it may not be easy to do.You see a lot done with no lock screws or pins.Hack jobs.Mine took 3 to 4 hours of custom fitting.Opening pin holes with a file slightly. The only thing i used repro was the pins.Than you have to get it 100% flat to the receiver.Get the lock screws in.A lot of tweaking involved for a real correct looking job.And sighting it in to have a decent sight picture.

Samco snipers were "real" snipers that were used by the Russians during WWII. After the war they were sent to Yugoslavia for use there. The optics were removed when they were no longer being used for other systems. The rifles were sold in their "original sniper configuration. They were not reworked and put into standard M91/30 service. They are snipers and have always have been snipers.

Replacing the optics and mount and base is generally OK because everyone knows that the Yugo's lost their optics so you are not trying to fool anyone. It is commonly known.

Replacing the optics and mount and base like they do when they "resniper" an "ex-sniper" that was 91/30 standard service is a deliberate attempt at forgery or commonly known as a "fake".

So in general, re-scoping Yugo's is allowed.

Personally, I'd rather own a Yugo that has been re-scoped then some of the other "questionable" sniper rifles that have been accepted and imported to the USA. But that is just me.

As for the base fitting to the receiver. There are generally no two sniper bases exactly the same. That is because the Russians did not use templates to drill and tap their snipers in WWII (PU Snipers that is). So the pin dimensions can vary in distance to one another and also in location. This is a big problem as your chances of getting a base that will fit your pins and tapped holes in the receiver is slim to none. On mine, all the tapped holes matched (thank God) and one pin. The second pin was off by less then a 1/6 of an inch. I removed the original pin and stored it away. I use a reproduction pin and took just a little off the side of it so it would fit into the base pin hole. I was very lucky. I have known guy that trade the bases off till they find one that will work. That could take over 20 trades to find.

But the re-scoping of the rifle is not why people collect these rifles. Shooting them is not why they collect them either. They collect them because they are unique and hard to find.

For example. I have two Romanian Mauser snipers used in WWII. Both are missing scopes. One has a scope mount. Both have the base. I collect them because they are rare and unique. Not to fire them. They lost their optics the same way after WWII. The scopes are so hard to find, that I have only seen one for sale in the last 12 years. So people put in what are called "filler scope". Everyone knows that is not the original scope, but it's OK because no one is trying to screw anyone over. It is not considered a "fake". Just a sniper with a filler scope. Also, they say they are a filler scope when they present them. Me, I left mine the way they came to me. I have other Mausers with scopes on them if I want to go shooting.

Same thing for these Yugo snipers. It has been acceptable to re-scope then because the rifle has ALWAYS been in "sniper configuration", and still is.
