barrel
I have a 1943-91/30 with war time stock, my question is the barrel appears to have very fine wire woven the entire length of barrel, it looks like it in the metal, what is this, took some pics but can,t see wire in photos-thanks randy
Re: barrel
Sounds like the finish left by the lathe when they fed it too fast. Pics will tell the tale.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Yep, fast cut with a dulled cutter, I've seen some that got progressively worse then had a big bulge on the outside of the barrel, then nice and smooth, appeared they had to stop and change out their tooling but didn't go back over it at all.

When the Nazis are occupying half your country, pretty doesn't count, but you can bet it functioned fine.

Re: barrel
Reminds me of the 1944 VKT M39s that have that rough finish from the machining of the barrel at the receiver end. Not as rough as the war time Russian 91/30 but still interesting.
