1901 Izhevsk-German-Finn

Post by cj1964 »

I picked this M91 up about a month ago and am finally getting some pictures posted - by request.
The rifle is pretty clean and unscrubbed. It's a German WWI capture marked with the "Deutschland" property mark. There is also a "V" on the underside of the stock which might be a German mark - I'm not sure...? The bolt is matched and I've been told that the small font numbers are actually German in origin. Again - I'm not sure about that.
The rear sight is not lined out on the left side, but it does have the Finn markings on the right. The SA stamp is hard to see in the photo, but it's there on the left side. The stock is a typical Finn spliced stock and not marked with the German stock stamp. It's hard enough to find a German captured rifle, let alone one that's still in it's original captured stock. The heel splice is starting to separate a bit, but it's still pretty solid.
German captured M91's always seem to demand a premium price, but this is a nice rifle and overall I'm very happy with it.
Enjoy!

Agreed that it is a German matched bolt, vs Finn matched.

The Deutschland mark is very crisp. Not often seen, either. Call it a score!
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....

Another nice one continues to be saved and in the hands of preservation. Some day collectors will find these and be so amazed that we had all this great opportunity. How did you ever find this one? I just love the look of it.

Cool, would like to see a full rifle shot. Some rifles were modified and a mount was added to the muzzle so it would accept a German bayonet, also the actions were modified so they would work with Mauser style chargers.
Very nice Deutschland Mark.Great score.

I'm more of a collector than a shooter. There's a lot of life left in this one and I'd be very comfortable taking it out for some range time, but no - I most likely will not be shooting this one. Like Bunkysdad said - it's in the hands of a preservationist now. :vcool:

I agree with the showcase comment. CJ was nice enough to let me drool on this rifle for a bit when I dropped by, it's a fantastic M91. First Deutchland marked one I recall seeing in person.
