Bear tag..

Post by Sonny »

Picked up my spring bear tag and looking forward to going out..but..

I won't just shoot any black bear that I see,no sir.

Last year we seen a beautiful cinnamon colour bear and I'm gonna try to find him again. It's a long shot I know and I most likely won't see him again.

But we're going to try.

However,if a huge blackie steps out in front of us then well....you never know..lol

Anyone else going out this spring?

Hunting things that hunt you...I hear bear burgers are greasy, I wonder what the bears think of human burgers

We only get brown or black or whatever bears here so far, they came back in the last ten years, at least officially, they were here before that only the officials didn't want to believe it. Friend of mine raises pigs, he hears a hell of a commotion while stepping out of the shower one evening. Figuring the coyotes were at the pigs he grabs the nearest gun, a .38 special S&W snubnose and runs outside without bothering to grab a robe. Comes around the corner of the pen to find himself face to face with a bear just dispatching it's second pig and not happy at the interruption. Without thinking he shot the bear five times in the head, at least one round penetrated the eye socket into it's brain killing it before it could disembowel the naked idiot standing in front of it. It was ruled self defense by the DEP, the gun was legal, and because he wasn't dressed none of us knew he pissed himself. That was our most serious bear incident to date.

I still feel bad for the cougar that found its way into Mountain View last year. Even after being relocated it tried to come this way again but got hit on the freeway. The cat's hiding place was across the street from where I work, a little more than a block from where I live.

I came face to face with a bear when I was 14. It had some nasty breath. I bitch slapped it and sent it on its way. :shifty:

Ok ok. I screamed. It screamed. We both ran. :chuckles:

Good luck with the hunt. Mr. Bear shown here with the rifle that dispatched him,was taken in Northern Calif. in the mid 80s. Be sure to think about how you are going to get him home, I didn't. After Mr. Bear met Mr. Winchester we, (3 other deer hunters), had to haul his 375 lbs about a 1/4 mile to the houseboat we were on then to the boat launch to get it to my truck.

Boar? Hmmm... Any day.

I would love to trade you a bear for a boar anyday..

But then I read stories about wild pigs being a nuisance...is this true?

You don't want the luxury of a pig hunt near your property.

Hell yes, I'll just mail you a big ole mounted boar, you mail me a black bear. I don't want your grizzly.

Here is Mr. Pig. He and his almost 500 pounds used to live in the Monterey, Ca. area. I had my truck and a winch this time.

I sure hope I can find some place here in California where I can hunt some wild pig, with out having to pay $1000 to some guy to guide me to do it!

I'd guess that most any county in the south would have them. They don't like the cold so much but I've read that a lot of the Midwest is getting them bad enough to pass nuisance laws for them.
