Ross Rifle Co. Canada M-1910 Patented - Porn

Post by martin08 »

These just don't come around every day. So, I took plenty of pics, in the shade and sunlight, to show and share.

Ross M-1910 MK III, 1914, in .303 British, straight pull.

Not perfect, as it is missing the swivels on the trigger guard (ground off) and buttstock, but it isn't butchered down for sporting, and it's in incredible condition for a WWI Veteran.

Likely won't be upgradable in my lifetime. Enjoy, and thanks for looking.

Oh mercy, that is gorgeous. I love the mechanics of the short lived Canadian straight pull bolt. Isn't that about the nicest stock stamps ever? !

Old world workmanship really shows on this piece. And since there are no numbers on the receiver or barrel, the stock stamp is the serial number, 70 DZ.

Fantastic! Very few Ross rifles (maybe 2-3 per year at best) show up here in Germany, normally those well-known ex-Chilean Navy ones. And they always command prices far north of 1k Euros.

Thanks, all.

With WWI action, rebuild programs and even support troop issuance in WWII, it is nearly against all odds that this rifle would have escaped any major changes since it was built in 1914.

Most of these guns are found with many marks on the buttstock, indicating use such as with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces (CEF), Canadian Reserve Battalion (CRB), the Home Guard (H.G.), British Naval marks, etc. The rifles shipped to Europe were also marked on the metal with either an E or LC, to indicate a chamber reaming which was done to reduce the occurrence of sticking brass.

There were also upgrades done to the rear sight, bolt stop, and bayonet lug. Most bolts were drilled and riveted to prevent incorrect assembly.

How this one made it through life without any issuance stamps or upgrades in such a demanding era is somewhat of a mystery.
