Strong consumer demand with many people trying to increase their own supply. A lot of new shooters who have never experienced a shortage are learning to have a reserve rather than go to the store & buy a box of ammo on the way to the range. Creates a hoarder mentality for sure.

And yes... Still no .22lr ammo at wallyworld. :angry4:

There are also lots of blasters out there that will go through thousands of rounds if they can. They'll talk about needing to find boxes of 500 to go shooting one day a month. I've seen guys with AR looking semi auto 22s go through 50-75 rounds in the time it takes me to go through my tube mag.

I like making things go bang as much as the next guy, but maybe learn to slow down a little. We would go to the local illegal dump and shoot at rats for hours with a box of 50 or 100. We'd pick a target (some can or stick) and challenge people to shots.

Maybe rationing ammo is a country thing. We went out shooting for a couple hours the last time I was back home and I think we used around 50 rounds of various calibers between us all. If I blasted through 10 rounds on my brother's SKS and missed what I was shooting at, I'd never hear the end of it.

I have seen a bunch of 50 rnd boxes ranging from $4-8 a box and 333 rnd boxes in the $32-37 range.. I stopped buying as I have a supply built up and don't shoot as much as I would like. However if I come across a good deal, then watch out..lol

We don't have it at Walmart. But you can buy it at Cabella's, and Field and Stream here in Columbus, Ohio. Regular prices for the most part. They sell out often. But replace fairly often too.

I agree. People need to buy just what they need to shoot, but the hoarding syndrome has taken over due to the perceived lack of ammo, so people stock up for a rainy day. It's natural if you shoot a lot. I have been guilty of it too. I bought 2000 rounds during the "crisis" and have stopped, because I realize now that the shortage is just due to people buying too much as well as the speculators who are probably reselling on gunbroker and elsewhere it to make a profit. I plan to stand pat with the 2000 rounds I have until it is near gone.

Funny how people who have a few thousand rounds of .22lr are considered hoarders...but yet..

People who have 2 or 3 or more crates of 7.62 x 39 or 7.62 x 54r are considered thrifty shoppers..

In my case it's just pure lazy, why spend an hour digging out that ammo can full of .22 from way in the back of the pile when I can just order another case and since I wanted to try that type of bullet anyway, and it's on sale....

The .30 ammo I did hoard on purpose and I warned everyone else to salt some away also. 7.62x54r, 7.62x39, US M2 ball, .303. 7.65 Argentine, 7.92 Mauser, 7.62x51mm, 7mm Mauser, and so on. I sought them out at cheap prices, I bought them, and I hoarded them deliberately. At the same time for every case I hoarded I shot two more, ammo was cheap, and I had fun while the getting was good.

I asked a old buddy of mine the other day if he had much 22 ammo, and he said no, not really. Maybe 8000 to 10,000 rounds.

I managed to pickup 10,000 the other day at are local Arm/navy store ( I only shoot round nose ) Blazer
I still have 5,000 Lapua Center-X , I only shoot them in Comps and I think 15,000 HP for plinking at stuff .
I also bought all the 22 Short that was around about 7 months ago and have not seen any since anywhere [ 6000 ] I shoot in my Basement .
Thats the problem with Acp's , I got ten clips for my GSG 1911 .22 Target pistol , so I can and do shoot 500+ in no time at all .
22 ammo is still hard to get in Canada , so I buy it when I see it , Pisses the Wife off big time , Oh well what can you do ( I Know whats coming after a comment like that ] :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

Burglarize you for starters, but it sounds like you don't have all that much , under 50,000 rounds? What happened? You get carried away shooting it up or something? Don't worry, I am sure a resupply will hit your local gun shop soon and you can stock up properly. These are the times we live in, what else is there to do but wait the shortage out.
