SMOOTH

Post by steelbuttplate »

My new Finned 91/30 takes strippers like nothing else. I got to wondering why? looking down the left groove of the charging slot is the end of the Interuppter? Anyway the end of it was rounded, filed, worn where the stripper/rim goes by, it smoothly slides outa the way.. Me takes a power saw file and rounds the same spot, just a little, on My Polish m-44 that don't like stripps some times and :big shock: He stripps better now,............ Finns recycled, tested , perfected, improved and.....SMOOTHED..........think Mosin......think Finn the damn thing if it don't work right........SBP 63MN's

My stripper clips all work smooth, they smoothly fly across the room and bullseye into the drawer were I keep them. Nobody shootin at me on the range so I can just feed them into the mag by hand.

I concur 100% on stripper clips and as they were indeed made for one time use and nobody is shooting back at me either and I have shit canned them years ago. I will be darned if I am permanently changing any Mosin to use them in a supposed better way. :o Bill

We are talking about a very minute adjustment that made a stubborn rifle into one that works like it's supposed to. I doubt you could tell I did anything at all to this rifle.
There is a difference in Preservation and gunsmithing/fine tuning. My goal for all my Mosins is to make them function like they are designed to do, then if I ever have to hand one to someone and say ; Here, fight with this, I'm not handing them a jammed up non- shooter. SBP

You are absolutely right. The difference is, this is a preservation forum not a gunsmith class.

Better check the "How to" sub forum and make sure there ain't no gunsmithing going on there. Don't adjust your firing pin or replace it if it's broken, leave it as it is. Don't polish your bolt.

Gunsmithing to fix a missing or broken part is one thing, taking a file and altering a Soviet part into something only the Finn's did is another. That clunky part belongs that way in a Soviet used rifle, it's part of it's history and gives a collector a good idea of what the Red Army soldier had to live with. Think of the confusion ten years after you sell off that rifle when a collector finds an obvious Finn alteration in it, and no SA on the receiver. How did it get there, was this an unmarked Finn capture that was recaptured by the Soviets and given red shellac.

These rifles are not hunting rifles, they are not juniors first target rifle, they are historical artifacts from a war 70 years gone, they are part of history. When you alter them, even in small ways then you are destroying the history for the next generation. If you didn't find Finn alterations inside the rifle then you should not be creating them yourself. This isn't a shim that can be removed in minutes and tossed away, this is an actual part of the rifle. History and preservation are paramount here, I could care less if any of these rifles fire in a straight line, or fire at all and that includes my own. I have commercial sporters if I want accurate shooting or something to mount glass on or whatever. It's the history that is important, the history of the weapons and the time they represent. The war is 70 years gone this year, most of it's participants are now gone or going soon, all that will be left are these relics so lets not make a mess of them.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Well said, Junk Yard Dog. It's not the affordable cost of these rifles or even their reliability, it's all about the history to me.
