Let's hope it's permanent and they don't try another ban like this. Next time they will be sneakier about it. They tried to be sneaky this time but were caught red handed and they know it.

According to the release it's only being shelved for now, maybe 6 months, until they can review the 80,000 responses that were submitted. This is far from over I suspect. We can't give up. https://www.nraila.org/take-action/writ ... top-batfe/

Still pretty confused by this whole kerfuffle. How were they being sneaky? How *could* they be sneaky? They can't prevent you from buying ammo without you knowing about it.

They tried to do just that very thing. That's the issue. And if nobody noticed their little announcement that was posted here:

http://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/Library/Notices/atf_framework_for_determining_whether_certain_projectiles_are_primarily_intended_for_sporting_purposes.pdf

The ATF would have banned it. Then they would have moved onto the rest of the 556 rounds as is already witnessed in recent press releases by the ATF. That post on their website was their announcement. If nobody read it, nobody would have known until it was over.

Of course they can. Remember when 5.56 disappeared off the shelves after Newtown? And then 6 months later it was announced that coincidentally just after Newtown the DHS began buying up billions of rounds of ammunition? After the initial panic buying there was nothing to resupply with due to DHS gross overbuying of ammunition. That bubble has just recently burst. That situation is exactly what you describe as not being possible.

Correction-BATF only makes the rules if we let them. Their second thought about the ban was due to the warning shots the House and Senate each fired. A lot of their constituents were not happy and if a majority of their constituents aren't happy, the legislators aren't happy. If the legislators aren't happy, the agency that stirred things up is certainly not happy. Angry legislators can do things like increase legislative oversight, hold public hearings, withhold funding and in extreme situations, abolish agencies or change their regulatory authority.
