M28 just arrived!

Post by joe7170 »

Well, the M28 I won off gunbroker a couple of weeks ago arrived today! It is a nice been there done that looking rifle, stock is dark, and has been around the block a few times, has dents dings, and a interesting square patch on the butt above the sling slot. Receiver is a NEW I believe, as I can see a faint arrowed E on the top of the tang, and underneath. Handguard has a pretty good crack running length ways, that I knew about when I bought it, should be able to glue it up though. Has a 2 piece nose cap, SIG barrel made in 28, that looks brand new, I mean shiney perfect rifiling. Serial of 18518, has been lined out, and has the civil guard number of S9260. Bolt has a bunch of dried grease on it, and is pretty much stained brown. It's not matching, but has a lined out S number on it, so it came from another civil guard rifle. Stock has a 33 stamped on the Buttplate, so I don't think it is the original stock.

Pics will have to wait till bill and I tear it down for cleaning Thursday. I'll take one from bills book on pics this time

Nope, more like the area where a ski trooper stock would have the other sling slot, but it's only on one side.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Hope i can get to Bill's tomorrow, calling for a good bit of snow :bigrant:

Ok, here's a few pics for you guys. I haven't cleaned it or anything yet, so that crud on the bolt is just that, dried cosmo. :D I'll get pics of the barrel date when i take it down at Bill's place.

She is a beater, the stock looks like it went though some action, either on this rifle, another, or on the M91 it was on before it was made into a M28. Barrel is flawless, almost new, bluing looks great as well!

Joe that is an SYT Finnish stock school marking in the finger groove. Heck that looks just great! I love rifles like that when they show you they have been there and done that! We will have to pull the butt plate to see what is marked under it if anything. The sling I have saved for it will work just great with those dog collars. It will look oh so good with them.

It is and has been raining to beat the band all day long and the bridge on the road to my place may soon be under water if it doesn't let up soon. The two poor horses are in a two place stall up there not too far from learning how to swim. I stopped and talked to the women and she says quote they will be fine they will break out the end of the bridge if it gets too high for them. Upper 30's yet here and believe it or not there is still snow and Ice in front of the shop door. I turned the truck around and got it close so if it snows too much we can shovel a path for moving things. Man if this were snow we would have more than New England I bet. Well over an inch of rain today so far. Supposed to change shortly and I am not looking forward to it at all. Says 8 to 10 inches! Yuk I hate Winter! Bill :beek:
