Bolt hole through stock

Post by blueibze »

Hi all.

I recently purchased a 91/30 for my Son. After unboxing, I noticed that there was a bolt through the stock just above the trigger guard.
Has anyone ever seen this on a Mosin before?

Thanx.

That is the recoil bolt. Don't try to remove it. Totally normal.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It's not the recoil lug.
It's a slot headed bolt with a nutzert, or anchor on the other side. I'll try to post a picture of it.

They all have a cross bolt right at the rear of the finger groove. Occasionally, they'll have a second cross bolt back in the wrist area of the stock. They're not uncommon, and I think they're most often seen in laminate stocks.

Most laminated and many regular wood stocks have a bolt through the wrist to strengthen that area. It is not unusual at all and actually getting fairly common of late. Bill
