Welcome to the board John, Issued M44 or refurbished one? Sounds like one of the issued ones, nice, :vcool: :vcool:

I've been lurking for a while and finally got tired of not seeing the pictures. I've had an M39 (VKT 1944) for decades and finally got around to hunting with it this year:

Mule deer button buck - I had an antlerless tag and it looked like a small doe at that distance; approximately 90m with Igman 150gr SPs.

I also have an SVT40 (1942 Tula ungrooved refurb) but no decent photos.

Hello All

I am a Mosin Nagant owner, both rifle and carbine, and I reload these little gems for shooting targets. I am sorry but I do not hunt; I love to go hunting and see my son and friends enjoy what they do and even partake of the booty. But sorry but thas as far as it goes.

I get my kicks from shooting steel plates at different ranges and hearing the ding and ring of the hit.

My home is here in South Asutralia. I live somewhat north of the city. I am a member of a gun club as well as the SSAA, yet do not shoot at a SSAA range. I am a retired Robotics teacher as I am sowhat disabled ( my lungs are stuffed). I gave up work when I could no longer walk to my classroom/ OSU space. I miss teaching badly, but thats life.

Enough of me..

Greetings,

I look forward to reading all of your posts and expect to gain a great deal of knowledge. I have owned a Mosin M44 for over a decade. It was purchased at a yard sale for 30 bucks and sat in the back of my wife's side of the closet, forgotten about, until two years ago. After cleaning it up and taking it to the range, I found that the ugly ducking was now my favorite rifle. This lead to several more Mosin purchases and an incurable fondness for its family. I only have six of them now, but am currently looking to adopt several more.

A pleasure to join,

German

Good morning Mosin & Milsurp board members, I guess this is where introductions are made. :) I'm a long time Military Surplus Firearms enthusiast, not much of a collector though as the information is more the focus than owning objects. My interest is a twist on the theme of where firearms fit in history, in particular where firearms technology pushed manufacturing technology. Therefore most of what I'm interested is those from the late 1800's until the turn of the century. Mosins hit all the hot buttons.

SO I've been a Mosin fan for a few years, bought three without knowing much about them. "Sinned" once already by converting one into my personal "Farm" & "Fun" rifle as I also enjoy shooting sports... it's perfect for me and it has achieved all it's design goals and adjectives... and that's about all I'll say being respectful of this form's focus. My other two are more in line with this forum as they have not been modified in a non reversible way. (I did read the rules) Both are 1930 era Hex receiver Mosin's, one I grafted a Red Dot where the rear sight base was. Didn't alter the barrel. Did remove the original sight base from the 11mm dove tail. Work's well with my old eye's and has allowed me to continue shooting.

The only other "MilSurps" I have are a near 80% 1896 Swedish Mauser that I would like to move closer to original. It does have all matching numbers so maybe it is as close as possible. I also have a sporterised 1917 Winchester Enfield. It carries a Leupold scope and has been my hunting rifle for 30 plus years. That's it. I don't own many guns. This Enfield may be more interesting than the introduction may suggest. I picked it up out of a pawn shop and it had already been hacked. The question is when. It may be one of those 1920's era modifications. The barrel/bore is excellent. it's been converted to "cock on open" and now has a nice walnut stock. It's as accurate as any typical under 600 dollar hunting rifle you can buy now... So It continues to be my main hunting rifle. I have bought sold several "current" bolt gun's... criterion to stay in my safe is they had to shoot better than the old Enfield.. It they didn't... they eventually would be sold. I still have the Enfield and no other Modern Bolt guns.

That's about it.

Other data? Used to be a Manufacturing Engineer (Ex. CAD/CAM/CAE type), now a farmer & snow plow driver. How things have changed! But still love the out doors and spend most of my non-sleeping time working & having fun out side.

Oh yea... My farm is in CNY

I purchased a M91/30 today, tried to do some research and I am confused because of all the marks. Deeply ingraved in the barrel, near the receiver is a wreath with hammer & cycle which I understand means it is Russian, Izhevsk, under that is the date 1939, then it gets funny. The serial number is under that and it is CB 1XXX. The funny thing is that above the CB is a smaller SV. Lower on is a triangle with what might be two small triangles. On the left side of the receiver, in the same size font, as the SV above, is the number SV 1XXX. The bolt is numbered 1XXX with no letters, above the bolt handle is a circle with what might be an arrow, towards the cocking knob is a circle C. The receiver has a lot of faint marks. An oval with an upside down U, a 4 and a 1 with a hash mark above it, a circle C, a circle K, and where the barrel is screwed into the reciever, on the left is what looks like a rectangle and a ? A. The letter I list as ? could be the top of a S or C or O. The guy who sold it to me for $100.00 said he thought it was a Finnish capture. The bore is great, it has been refinished at one time. On the barrel, before the front sight is the import information. M91/30 Russis 762X54R, over, C.A.I. ST ALB VT. I was wondering if someone would comment on this rifle.

Welcome to the board, pictures would help but by the description of that rectangle with the A and probably S in it I would say you have one of the Finnish captured Soviet 91/30's. The Finn's captured hundreds of thousands of weapons from the USSR during the Winter and Continuation wars of 1939-40, 1941-45 and pressed them into use themselves. The SA stamp is the Finnish army property mark. Your friend should have come on the board before he sold that rifle for $100, we would have told him ( unless it's been altered) $250. Most of the small markings on these rifles are unknown, and likely inspection stamps.
