My resent visit to Samco..
I was going to post what would amount to a large article recounting what I observed in the stock room at Samco. I've decided not to post such a large writing because I don't know if there is anyone who cares about this. So I will give a small rundown of what I saw and handled there: They still have a large numbers of the Yugo SKS's both models with or without grenade lunching devises, some of these are in excellent condition and some look down right like new. I also observed several pallets of spanish Mausers but I did not handle any so condition on those is unknown as the pallets were plastic wrapped. I and my friend went through six crates of Argentine Mausers attempting to find one for him that was totally matching to include the cleaning rod, and we found one he could not live without, I was very happy for him.
This is an interesting note: I discovered a pallet of M1 Carbine stocks and another pallet of barreled actions, all the barreled actions I observed had the barrel bands on them (Bayonet Type) so all you needed to do was drop the barreled action in the stock add the upper hand guard and there you go, an M1 Carbine is born...before anybody asks, the wood did not look good (Maybe need cleaning) the barreled actions looked like they my have been rusty and needed refinishing. I was told they came from South America???
They have a good supply of Yugo bolt action Mausers left, some are nice some are not. There are only several Persian mausers left and I would rate them as good condition but nothing above that, some have rust in the bores. I remember when they had them brand new in the sealed crates with matching bayonets and factory test targets, I could kick myself for not picking one up.
I already reported on another posting about the Swiss K31's, I couldn't pass up picking up a mint example made in 1952 with mint sling and unissued bayonet. There were only ten like these left that day. There was also a small stack of excellent condition Walnut stocked rifles and I also found one to take home. Not to mention the Tula 91/30 Sniper that followed us home that day too.
One last note to relate. According to Samco, there are no more 91/30 Snipers to be had overseas, and not much of anything els unless the U.S. laws change. We have all heard about the thousands of M1 Garands and Carbines in south Korea, they were going to come over until Hillary put her foot in it and stopped the importation. Depending on what happens in the next elections will tell wether they stay there or not.
Please let me know what you guy's think about all this and if anybody have any questions about visiting Samco....

It sounds like a trip to paradise compared to what I see at local gun stores these days.

The K31 is a nice piece of work, Not a surprise to me after having experience with the Vetterli. I am hearing from all corners that the Mosin refurb is about to become unobtainium thanks to the current political climate here and over there. That's all Mosins, not just the snipers. The wild ride is over I guess, been some time since they were as cheap as when I was buying them anyway. I am surprised they still have Argentine Mauser's, I bought two from them in 1987, still have both, still shoot both, nice rifles.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: My resent visit to Samco..
I believe the total number of Argentine Mausers is probably about 25 rifles, they all looked well used and there were several mismatched stocked rifles in the bunch. My friend is more into the markings then condition, I'm more interested in condition so I was not interested in these rifles. They have a lot of stuff that they do not advertise. Just to give you an example, behind several pallets of Yugo SKS's I found a full pallet of Yugo 98k's. I was able to check a few out and they are in great condition, some have Nazi marking and who knows what else is in that stack as far as condition and markings. Unfortunately these rifles are not for sale at this time, but I will check back with them a few months.

Sounds like a great trip and, indeed, paradise. Also sounds like they have a decent inventory to move forward with as the Milsurp imports begin drying up. Me thinks prices are on the rise - I've already noticed this. Nice report.

What kind of showroom do they have? Is it like a gun shop or more of a storage warehouse type of setup? What about ammo? They have some nice ammo on their website sometimes and I always wondered about how much quantity they had.

Same question for me. They are not that far from me. But I thought they were web based only. I have a week at the end of the month. I could easily make a trip there.bunkysdad wrote:What kind of showroom do they have? Is it like a gun shop or more of a storage warehouse type of setup? What about ammo? Columbus, Ohio is not that far from Miami, Florida? Or do they have another location?

Re: My resent visit to Samco..
Samco has always had some neat stuff. Yes, shipping is usually higher than the big companies who have shipper contracts. But
when I need some thing a bit rare for say Swedish Mausers and Lahti Pistols, I usually find it cheap there.
I have been buying brand new unissued looking magazines for a Lahti M40 there. Military stamped! They have them for $15 each instead of $30 to $50 for well used ones their competitors sell. Got two of them in Tuesday with another Lahti goodie.
A very nice Lahti m/40 black leather Air Force belt with shoulder strap and a holster. A true Sambrowne belt! I didn't have to pay any $70 to $125 ea either. Regular price at Samco, $16.95
So I don't give a crap if they charge me $5 or $8 more for shipping. I just grin and say thank you Samco.

Samco goes way back , I forget how long they have been around but it does seem like they have always been around.

Re: My resent visit to Samco..
Samco does not have a show room, and they do not cater to walk in customers either. They are strictly a web seller. Their setup is not conducive to having customers wandering around piles of rifles and ammo which are on pallets stacked one on to of the other. Things the way they are these day's I can see they would be concerned about somebody tripping over something and getting hurt.bunkysdad wrote:What kind of showroom do they have? I saw a lot of 30cal M1 ammo. I also saw crates of original M1 Carbine 15 round mags in factory grease warpers. There's plenty of 303 ammo. I really was not paying much attention to the ammo or the tons of web gear, bayonets and bayonet frogs, slings and a lot of other stuff there. I would recommend if anybody want's to go there, to know what your looking for, they will have an employee look for what you want, it's doubtful they would let someone unknown run around in there. Iv'e been a customer for many years and have visited their warehouse many times through out the years, when I do I try not to bother them too much even-though the truth is I would love to be able to dig through all those crates in hopes of finding some treasure. It's like a kid at Disney land....

Re: My resent visit to Samco..
I have heard the same for many years now. Being an old customer, they will tell me if they have what I need. Too far from Iowa for an old guy to travel. But the ladies on the phone whether they speak perfect English or not, will ALWAYS tell the warehouse guys to find me a good one! Just like some of my rifles from there and this Lahti Sambrowne I just got. The Sam is F10 and they picked a matching F10 holster for me. From Angelholm Squadron at Angelholm, Sweden during WWII.
I sadly, hear on many Boards how guys tear these ladies apart because they don't always understand them. Well, I tell them to talk slower and be nice to them. Get a shipping cost quote on the phone in the first place. DUH! I don't really care one bit about their Nationality or what ever. I'm nice to them and they go out of their way to get me the nicest item they can from their warehouse people. Those folks down there really do appreciate it when I give them a pat on the back for helping me. Kindness does do wonders at Samco!!!!

The few dealing I have had with them have been ok. I'm not sure if English is anyone's first language down there, but i ordered some swede wood blank ammo for reloading, and the lady on the phone must have liked me or something, cause I got a real steep discount for some reason
RIP Kevin Carney. Your always in our hearts.

They advertise them on the page as 1909 in Very Good Condition with Special Select available. Plus they give the German Arsenal info on them and current prices.Sirex wrote:Are the Argentine Mausers the 1891 or 1909 Mauser? Thanks
Pretty high grade ones for nowadays I think. Check them out.
