Tactical strike

Post by SA1911a1 »

My brother and I are planning a cross border raid on Georgia pawn and gun shops this weekend. We will be going in blind, with no prior reconnaissance, armed only with a GPS, Greed and Greenbacks. (the three "Gs" of gun collecting) In this new, foreign territory, we plan to coffee-up, leave early, and march through Georgia like Sherman on cocaine, leaving the smoking ruins of cuckolded Georgia collectors in our tracks. Oh, but I love the smell of napalm in the morning........

Wish me luck boys; photos will surely follow.

The 97th have some good CD's out, I have been listening to them for many years as I clean guns in the shed, or did before hurricane Sandy did for the shed. Good luck, and it was never proven that Sherman was using coke, he was probably just another alcoholic looking for hidden shine jugs.

Ah, but Bill, I am using the D-day strategy; the intent is known, but the target is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Only those with bigot clearance know the landing beaches. The Georgia collectors can not protect the entire state and may their Panzer leaders be hamstrung by sleeping leaders and map games. :D

Come on down Bill, I will meet you in Quitman for coffee and we can either triple team them or split up. I intend to smoke out another one of those $150.00 S. Georgia Swedes!

There's a civil war gunshow in Dalton this weekend. And that's really close to Guns of Yesteryear in Tunnel Hill. If I was was planning a raid in my own state, that's where I would start 8-)

Back from Georgia.

The brother and I solved all of the worlds problems on the drive to an fro and had a good time and ate some fine groceries. The pickings were not what I had hoped, but I bought my first Bubba'd rifle. Damn Bubba's soul, he cut the last 12" off the fore-end of the stock a beautiful, matching M-1891 DWM Argentine Mauser. The stock has very nice tiger-striping. The metal, also matching, is flawless with perfect bluing and a mirror bore. It is amazing to me that a rifle produced in 1899 could be in such fine shape. $200.00 OTD may have been a bit much, but I just couldn't help myself.

I will take some pics tomorrow.

Let's see Hagerstown, Maryland then Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania then Lewisburg, Pennsylvania then Tipton, Pennsylvania then Altoona, Pennsylvania and then home. Truck lost a lot of weight on the trip! Saw people who I shot with when I was in the NSSA and heard we lost some good people in the ensuing years. No Mosins in the truck other than a couple of them I went with and some wood products I needed. My Butt is sore from riding and the Subaru has about 800+ more miles on it. Gas was all the way down to $2.09 a gallon in one place. With refinery strikes in this country and air strikes overseas and domestic oil producers shutting off the spigot I don't think the prices will be down that long so get your running out of the way now. I ought to put a fuel tank in outside yard is what I have been thinking of lately.

Altoona gun show by Showmasters and C&E was the lamest thing I have ever seen! Really the absolute worst ever. With a bad leg it took me 16 minutes to run through and be ready to leave! Thing's like 7.62x45 ammo 20 rounds for $19 were the norm and I know that stuff isn't growing on tress but I would not have the nerve to put that price on a package of it. $325 refurbed 91/30! With a whole 3 Mosins in the whole show and all refurbs of some kind that was one of the cheapest. Last time for me stopping by to see things. Line at opening was about 30 people long so they know what is there, parking was not cleaned and people were having problems finding spots as snow was piled every where. It is a crying shame as the venue, Blair Conference Center is first class but that show sure isn't.

So what did I find? I got a stock maker lined up for some work, I got some wood stain and finish products for my side work on hunting pieces, I sold a bunch of Kevin's stuff, I saw people who I haven't seen in 10 or 20 years, and had an almost snow and ice free trip after getting out of WV. One thing strange beds make your own feel that much better! Mobilization exercise is over! Bill

The Dulcimer club I belong to plays "Lincoln & Liberty" as well as a few other 'Union' songs. We also play some
Southern Army songs to keep from getting rotten tomatoes thrown at us. Hope you have good luck on your hunt!

You can see why the butchered stock is such a shame. I now have to decide whether to buy a $150.00 non-matching stock, or retain a chopped-up matching stock. In either case, this is one of the nicest 116 year old guns I have seen.

Well, I guess things at the PA gunshows are getting about as bad as the shows down here :vsad: Then again it's getting late in the gunshow season too, I know after March it's time for me to get back outside and into the outdoors whether that involves shooting, hiking, camping, and the end of April there is ramp digging :Drool1:
RIP Kevin Carney. Your always in our hearts.

Well Steve, except for some missing wood, that is a beauty. If you find the right stock eventually then great, but until then it sure would be nice to put some lead through it.
