Posted in the new members forum. Figured I would post here too. Will get more disaster I clean them up.
I've seen Mosins around at the gun shows for a while. Not sure why it took me this long to buy in... but now that I have two I want more I'm specifically on the hunt for an M44 now. I picked up my first, a Tula hex receiver, at Gander Mountain last week. Picked up Izhevsk a few days later at a nearby Military Surplus store. Nothing special that I can see in either one, but looking forward to cleaning and shooting both.
Welcome to the forum. That's a nice start but now you need to take many pictures and post them up. Especially of the whole rifle. After all we are suckers for pictures and you will be shown the super secret Mosin Nagant Forum handshake with posts containing a lot of pictures in time.
Welcome! Both rifles look good. I especially like the Tula. Gander Mountain you say? Once there was a blue moon and I found a 1933 Tula at a GM, but that was a while back. The 1943 looks fairly representative of its type. Great start to a collection!
Congrats on your entry into the Mosin-Nagant fraternity, and welcome to the Mosin Madhouse, where none can survive with just two. You got a nice starter pair of historic firearms. We will be looking forward to the pics of your new M-1944 carbine.
Yep. Gander Mountain. They were selling for $199 and didn't come with the full accessory kit (just the bayonet and the tools). I was totally going to pass and look elsewhere, until I noticed the Tula with hex receiver. The Izhevk came with the usual stuff - bayonet, strap, tools, and ammo pouch. The receiver is in rough shape - but overall it looks like a decent gun.
Here's the Tula
And the Izhevk
Will take many more pics as I begin to clean them up.
I have a line on an M44 already too.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
