Finally a M1 Garand bayonet.

Post by sgtheindl »

I have a condition where I need to have a bayonet to go with a rifle if one is applicable or it just bugs me (Only have the K31 and No1 Mk3 without bayonets now!). I looked for quite sometime around my area with only finding some that were $150 (eek!), but finally came across one today for $60. It seems to be a fair price but really wished it had a scabbard. I like the patina of the blade which goes well with my well used M1. Only issue I have is the bayonet is super wobbly on the rifle. I have a machinist friend who I'll probably ask to make a shiv that will fit perfectly. Anyways, thanks for reading!

I should mention that I was out with soccerlfb6 again doing another "gun run". He found a nice M1 carbine bayonet to go with his carbine at the same place.

That is a piece of paper I have wedged in there just to make it fit a little better for the time being.

Shiv?? That's con speak for crude stabby thing made from melted plastic sporks. Scabbard is what you need, and you can find them on GB or eBay from time to time. They were used well into the 1970's in state guard units and are not that rare, it's the bayonets that can be harder to find.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I didnt mean a shiv like that haha. I just meant something to make it fit tighter. A scabbard is in the works.

Very nice set up... I just found a pretty good deal on the K31 bayonet at AIM Surplus. I'm thinking it was $59 plus $9 shipping, very pleased with mine.

For m1 Bayonets look at the CMP. Some great prices.

Methinks you're meaning SHIM and not SHIV.

Nice find. BTW , I have more 1907 bayonets than I have Enfields.. I can dig them out and see exactly what I have if you are interested in one.

Yea that was supposed to be a shim not a shiv. Don't know what I was thinking haha.

Had a little accident at the range the other day. I used some paper to help wedge the bayonet in place and I guess I didn't have the bayonet clicked in place. The bayonet slid off the mount and in the way of the barrel and was shot...I'm a genius as of late...

Wow, sorry about the bayonet. These bayonets are kind of pricey. But it could have ended much worse than just the damage to the bayonet. Any idea what trajectory the bullet took after ripping through the bayonet ring?

Well, it's a good lesson for us all concerning bayonet slippage. Sorry to see that. Thanks anyhow for posting. I'll be extra careful from now on when I attach a bayonet and shoot. :(

most M1 Garand bayonets do not fit real tight like a mauser bayonet ,nor do m14 bayonets they just do not have that real tight click on fit .that said, that bayonet may have had some issue with the slot ,id call your luck a big break of another chance at life and your eyesight ,get the ring cutoff and smooth it over and have a nice GI fighting knife ,otherwise leave it on a shelf as a reminder of what can happen shooting a firearm . your a lucky guy .
