Re: Starting the Semi Auto collection...
We have a pretty fair selection at some of the LGSs here in Arizona. I scored my Yugo 59/66 at one for $400. Plenty of good ranges and the California weather without their anti-gun nonsense. Beautiful firearm and I got it at a marked down price to boot.

Re: Starting the Semi Auto collection...
I liked knowing that all I had to worry about selecting was a good receiver, the rest of the rifle is Winchester made so no worries there. I had it custom built by a retired Marine armorer, this was back before the Chinese and everybody else got into making them. thousands and thousands of rounds fired and it doesn't even look broke in yet. I was buying ammo three and four crates at a time back in the day for that rifle. I know who made my rifle, I know were the parts came from, that makes it worth more to me than any commercially made M1A. Having enjoyed several of Century Sporter built creations of this and that over the years I learned to cast a jaundiced eye on any commercial built copy of a military rifle.Sharkman wrote:Thank JYD!!! How far are you from the border? You could always move to VT and live a better life. I'm going to go poor with the guns I want to buy. Do you like that type of M14 more than an M1A?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thanks again JYD. I will see if I can try to put together a rifle like that. That seems really cool and very unique!!! If I can find a really nice surplus one I'll do that. If not, the M1A will be my second choice.
So Century Arms make nice guns but not as nice or cool as actual AKs?

If you want to stay with Russian stuff, I love the Vepr line. Harder to get not, but some still on GB. I had 2 54r Veprs but never fell in love with them, but I LOVE my .308 Vepr. Looks nice, reasonably accurate, fun and classy looking. Not super expensive to shoot if you shoot cheap Russian .308 or ZQ1 7.62 from Walmart and you don't have to worry about corrosive primers. I did not like the Vepr 54r mags. Csspecs makes metal .308 Vepr mags. If you want cheaper, a SKS is a nice, classy rifle.

I have looked at those VEPRs as well but I want something that has either been used during a conflict or is a weapon type that has been used during a war.

If you are looking for something with actual provenance Atlantic is selling Iraqi contractor WASRs for $469. Im pretty sure thats my next purchase.
Re: Starting the Semi Auto collection...
Oh and general rule of thumb... stay away from US built AKs. Buy imported factory rifles I.E. Zastava, Cugir (Romanian). Etc.Vendetta wrote:I would stay away from non usgi m1 carbines. Excellent info Vendetta!!! I have been thinking about a contractor WASR as well. If you get one before me, let me know how it is.

Will do. Im in the market for an AK now and am sitting on the cash but our big ([emoji1] ) local gun show is in 2 weeks so I will probably wait until after the show to pull the trigger if I dont find anything there. Im still trying to dump an AR upper to give me a little extra foldin money for the show.Sharkman wrote:Excellent info Vendetta!!! I have been thinking about a contractor WASR as well. Arsenal Arms are the best commercial AK's, and Marc Krebs makes the best AK's to be had anywhere. Both are in the US. Arsenal uses Russian and Bulgarian parts on US receivers, Marc Krebs makes his guns from Saigas.Vendetta wrote:Oh and general rule of thumb... stay away from US built AKs. Converted AKs not withstanding. The American made AKs I am referring to are that of InterOrdinance and the like. "100% American made" with US barrels. The Krebs and Arsenals do not have US barrels.entropy wrote:Arsenal Arms are the best commercial AK's, and Marc Krebs makes the best AK's to be had anywhere. Both are in the US. IO is to AK's what Halle Arms and Blackthorne Arms (same company, just a new name) are to AR's.

Re: Starting the Semi Auto collection...
Yeah. Junk. Im not a fan of the new Century built AKs either. Or the fact that they are trying to price out imports to make their rifles more competitive. I am however interested in the new PSA AKs. Their ARs are quality so we shall see.entropy wrote:IO is to AK's what Halle Arms and Blackthorne Arms (same company, just a new name) are to AR's.
Re: Starting the Semi Auto collection...

Re: Starting the Semi Auto collection...
Looks really nice! Good find. I really want one but at the moment I'm poor and I was poor when they ran out. What can you do though?
Still thinking the shops near my dad's house are the places to go. One always has the cool semi autos and he has reasonable prices. Or I could drop out of school, go fight ISIS and come back with a ton of them.
Tell me how you like it.
