It's a good idea to watch for someone following you after a range trip with a lot of guns. They don't need to know where you live.

This is a very good thread. It reminds me that I need to not be so enthusiastic about sharing what I have. It's a shame too. I've only shown a few people some of my rifles and they are very trusted friends. I don't have a safe but have thought about getting one. I have my small collection mounted on walls that can't be seen from outside through any windows or doors. The fact that some safes can be so easily breached is a good reason to not be too comfortable about how secure they are in one. I know my stuff isn't as secure as it could be but there's 4 adults living here and someone is here at all times. One neighbor, a very trusted neighbor knows what I have. He lives across the road and was the justice of the peace at one time, grew up here and knows everyone including the sheriff who he grew up with. Well I know him too but not as well.

I know my neighbor would never tell anyone about what I have because he doesn't really talk much. He's an old country boy that's hard to really carry on a conversation with to start with. He's one of those guys who's a man of few words but when he says something he means it. That said we watch eachothers houses because he and his wife have a business and are not home sometimes. He also has his CCW permit and his weapon of choice is a .45 ACP. If all else fails if someone wants to try to come in here good luck. If they get past me they have my soon to be stepfather to deal with. He's from the south pacific Island of Tonga and is huge as well as fairly crazy when it comes to a fight. He's strong as an ox. He's another one who's a man of few words. I pitty anyone who has to deal with him. I'll just shot you. He may eat you.

Sheesh! I suddenly have collection envy! Very nice guys...impressive!

Once my collection begins to build, I will absolutely have them on display. For me to drool over mostly lol. I have an ill-tempered German Shepherd that will keep the neighborhood kids away and my daughter can recite every basic gun safety rule in her sleep. Of course I do have all the ammo in a small fireproof safe...just in case. I have a few woodworking skills and look forward to when I can build my own racks to display my collection! Right now, my M91/30 (less bolt) has a home leaning against the wall next to the TV stand.

I can only dream of having a collection anywhere near what you all have....but I tell ya', it's a nice dream! :)

Is your stepfather looking for a job hunter? Security agent in the scrap business.

Everybodys collection started with one rifle, in time you will have as many as you like, took me 30 years to build my collection, some things can't be rushed.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Ok this is on the lines of what's being discussed here and what I've said. I told you all how it is here with the neighbors looking out for eachother. Keep in mind we're in the middle of nowhere. When someone's seen around here that's out of place it get's noticed and word travels fast. There's a main road that passes my property down by the pond. The neighbor's that live across the road have a daughter that looks after her uncle's horses for him. She feeds them for him everyday while he's at work. She went to go do that and while she was riding up the road noticed someone walking on the road that wasn't from here. She turned around came back and locked the house up. When she did the guy had disappeared. She actually rode around to look for him.

She didn't find him and went to go feed the horses and when she returned came and got me to sweep the house in case soemone that wasn't supposed to to be there was in the house. I found no one and all was well but this is an example of community coperation that is sorely missing these days. It's no guarantee that we won't be robbed but it sure makes it harder. Now that's not the end of it. She and her family have lived here their whole life and they have kin for many miles in all directions. Now everyone knows that someone was spotted on the road that's suspicious. Anytime someone is walking the road here that isn't recognized it's suspicious because it's so far between most houses. I love this place.

Holy - crap! 20 rifles in one year?

Nicely displayed in your rumpus room too, I might add. I like the flags.
Some people are like slinkies....

They are not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when pushed down a flight of stairs.

I like that setup too. I saw plans for something like that a while back. It took some looking around but I think I found the link to it. You can make it a long as you want. I have the PDF saved but it's also located here. http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/images/Woode ... iagram.gif

Now I just have to find some place to put it.

During my running around yesterday, I stopped at a thrift store to see if they maybe had a hurricane lamp. This particular place usually has some pretty decent stuff dirt cheap. I about fell over when I went inside...TWO matching oak 10 gun standing display cases for $29 each! They would deliver for an additional $18. Unfortunately, both were already sold.

You never see these for sale anymore, not around here anyway. Most places carry an assortment of safes and maybe a rack, but no display cases. I would have loved to pick both of these up.

It is nice to find stuff like that in a thrift store. Two of the racks I have came from gun stores. They're only the basic 4 gun racks and one has a draw while the other has a shelf. That one is my working gun rack. Both are home made and came from local thrift stores for about $3 to $5 each. I never leave one if it's not already sold. You never know when a rifle is going to need a new home. Might as well be prepared.

Thanks to all that shared their different ways of storing and displaying their gun collections. I have a couple of safes for guns (for climate control and security) and several homemade steel crew tool boxes for ammo. I depend on anonymity as my most effective crime deterrent. That and several large dogs keep me and my loved ones safe(yes,I include my ordinance as a loved one) I.m also a survivalist with an offsite 2nd location bunker. I'm not a militia member but do have a group of friends I can always depend on should the SHTF. Some call us Preppers . " I just like guns " is what I say to anyone that asks "WHY so many" I'm also a gun dealer which accounts for my inventory always changing.I do display the weapons I have for sale, but only at my shop behind lots of security. I used to display everything I had. Can't do it anymore.

But dug up some old photos of the collection as it grew over the years.

My Gun room.......

My first rack was "huge"!! Well, it seemed like it at the time!

Then I replaced it with a built in unit from 7.62 x 54r website. Great rack setup. And moved some onto the walls

Added a "under the bed" setup when that one got full

Finally moved everything in to gun safes. But I still have the carbines on the wall.

I'm moving some of my original Rev War rifles to the wall later this month. Gun room has a full size bed and a 32" flat screen (and my computer) in it. Very comfortable. Fully alarmed (2 systems) and lock on solid core doors.

For Christmas I got a Winchester (licensed product) safe, with room for 24 long guns, or about twelve guns and ammunition, knives, etc. I don't know how it'll hold out against a determined thief, but one man couldn't just walk in and take it. Dad's got a slightly larger Liberty. That ones heavy as sin, it'll take at least three men to get it on a pallet jack.

I like the electric fence charger idea. I was about five when I grabbed a live wire, I thought my grandad had turned the thing off. WHOOAAAA!!! Big mistake!
Things could be worse. Work to keep from finding out how much worse.
