AJ, your initial visual inspection was that it was a really nice almost unissued rifle, and only after taking it down did you see some pitting, which to me makes it still a very nice rifle. There is no telling how long these rifles remained unattended or cared for before they were refurbed and knowing the climate that they came from, lots of cold wet winter climate and all the stocks may not have stayed as dry as ideal situations would hope for. I think you did good.
