I don't know how realistic this list is, but it's currently what I've been searching the internet and locally the most for. Unfortunately I'm starting to get into the higher priced firearms.

1.) Belgian 1889 Mauser Rifle or Carbine that is intact in original military configuration.
2.) Early Japanese Type 99 Arisaka (mum, AA Wings, dust cover, monopod, all matching). Stock hasn't been sanded, etc.
3.) Winchester 1895 Russian Contract Musket.
4.) Springfield or Rock Island 1903 that has a matching barrel and the serial number is high enough to shoot.
5.) Japanese Paratrooper Type 2. One that each side has matching serial numbers. Intact mum is a bonus.

There is a laundry list of other stuff I look at as well. Stuff a lot cheaper that is probably more realistic.

 Yes this is true to a point for me also, though now I'm at a stage where I want to upgrade many of my examples, I would rather hunt for and have 1 of the best of something that I can find than say 5 common examples of other stuff. These days for me it's been about quality over quantity. Why I will probably only meet one or two of my top 5 list this year.

This list looks realistic to me. Good luck with it.

I wanted to say to everyone how much I appreciate the participation on this thread. This is a project I am doing that will probably take about a year. I'm a statistics kind of guy. So we will see what happens.

For everyone else, its not too late. Try to stick with the instructions in post one. Some lists have been kind of off topic and funny. But I am really trying to get answers based on the instructions on post one. So if we could stick to that, it would help a lot.

Thanks again.

Cat, I hit that gun shop on exit 69 off of 71 south of Columbus last week. Not much older stuff but they had just about everything. Prices were not too bad either. Hell they even had .22lr

Bump. :)

How did you do?

I crossed off number two on my list. Went after number 1,3, and 5, but came up empty. Added some other interesting and nice pieces to the collection though.

OOOooooh. Just shy of a year old post.
Nice to know you remembered the list.
I was (and still am) going to do a little summary for all those that participated last year making their lists. Then we can see how we all did.

I let fate surprise me on what I bring home. But I would like to find another Swede rifle, or perhaps a better looking Enfield. The thing that works against me is that I am a tightwad, so not only do I have to find them, but I want to buy them at well under market value.

Holy crap you basically have the exact same philosophy I do.

I buy whatever strikes me at the time when I have some mad Money.

But I am so tight and looking for a deal sometimes I squeak,I just cannot help it.

It don't matter what I am looking for!! My Grandpa that was born in 1905 and lived through the depression taught me all to well!! ;mywink;

My Top 5
1-M1 Garand WW2 era
2-M1 Garand WW2 era
3-M1 Garand WW2 era
4-M1 Garand WW2 era
5-M1 Garand WW2 era

I will have one this Year :attn:

6. Buy my Ithaca 37 back

Then I can think about the ones I've wanted to add:

1. .45 ACP revolver, preferably Colt 1917, but Smith 1917, 25, 625, 325, or Taurus Stellar Tracker would be fine also.
2. .300 Win. Mag. or .338 Lapua long range rifle.
3. M1 Garand
4. Gew 98, preferably Spandau.
5. Hetzer Double Tap .45 ACP pistol.
OK, got my Turkish Mauser and Ithaca 37 back, and bought a different .223, so just 3 to go before I can start on my Top5 list.

Absolutely not a jab at entropy, but this should be read by every person who considers selling his weapons-- absent one of the dreaded "Three Ds." 'Glad to hear that entropy has made progress buying some of them back!

I had a dangerous thought this weekend. I started thinking about the possibility of picking up those refurb makes/years between 1921 and 1945 that I don't have. Yet.

As of right now, I collect by example. And I've got a long list.
Can't really say I've got a set top five… but here.
M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
M1903a3
K98k
M1907 Artillery Carbine. I'm getting a job, saving up, and going to Mother Motherland.
Things could be worse. Work to keep from finding out how much worse.
