Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I can shoot 174 and 203 grain non corrosive ammo through it? Or have to use 147?
Re: 1895 Winchester Russian Contract 7.62x54r...
Very similarly to a Win. M94. You pull the lever down, align the bolt retaining pin with the hole in the side, (It has a screw covering it, remove that first) then drive the pin out from the side the screw was in. Can't remember offhand if both sides are covered with screws or not; I know the 94 isn't. It's been about 5 years since I did an M95...) Removing the bolt to clean the barrel (and the bolt, obviously) should be all that's needed for cleaning/regular maintenance. Anything more involved, I'd recommend a gunsmith. Also, be sure the screwdriver you use fits the head correctly, finding a replacement for a buggered screw on them is hit or miss.Pureform wrote:Does anybody know how to disassemble for cleaning? Re: 1895 Winchester Russian Contract 7.62x54r...
when I had mine, I shot both light and heavy ball in it, it didn't seem to have a preference either. it was cool shooting it. it didn't recoil too bad as it was a beefy rifle.
the case ejection kinda sucked thou, you had to develop a routine because if you just flipped the lever down, the case would go straight up and land on your head or on your back collar
mine was an impulse buy since it was the first one I had seen in real life. and I had it for about a year till I decided it didn't really fit in the mosin section and could free up some money for other goodies (3rd and 4th snipers)

I posted this in another forum and everybody is telling me i should not shoot it cause a risk of destroying this firearm... I bought non corrosive 174 and 203 grain to shoot it and they are saying im crazy if i shoot it and i shouldn't attempt to shoot the 147 grain... If i hand load they i can make low power loads but i don't... What do you guys suggest?

Disregard the old post when i said i made a mistake on how much i spent winning this rifle...
All I can say is WOWWWW... This rifle is beautiful and is worth every penny and more and Im very happy I bought this piece... Has the XN3 marking and the upside down U... Also the U on the barrel bands... To show its a russian contract... And of course the winchester rollmarks with the dates and serial number and other stuff and so forth... The metal has a beautiful patina and the action moves smooth like butter... Very strong rifling and no pitting in the bore...
The trigger is amazing and light as a feather...
So how do i take it apart lollll Looks complicated... I dont mind shooting surplus but if i cant take this apart to clean thoroughly than i might have to buy non corrosive...
Here are the pics... Not so great since im using my cell phone and the lighting and color might not be perfect like in person... Enjoy...
Very Nice![]()

Wow that is... wow.
Re: 1895 Winchester Russian Contract 7.62x54r...
Finally bought some non corrosive ammo and probobly will be shooting it tomm...
Re: 1895 Winchester Russian Contract 7.62x54r...
Well this isn't a professional evaluation, but by looking at it in your pics, I'd say you should have no problem shooting the 174's for sure. The 203's shouldn't hurt the gun, but your shoulder is another matter.....Pureform wrote:I posted this in another forum and everybody is telling me i should not shoot it cause a risk of destroying this firearm...
