That's a good first one. 1926 Izhevsk. Looks like an ex dragoon. But has the MO mark with a second date. Good find.

Re: first mosin
Heck yes we need more photos! If you had posted 400 photos we'd tell you we need more!
That is a sweet rifle. I love the old boys "made new". I'd love to see the rest and a clearer photo of that barrel shank (little dark for my old eyes).
Sweet looking so far, and welcome aboard!

Re: first mosin
It originally was built at the Izhevsk arsenal in 1926 as a dragoon rifle. At some point, it was upgraded to 91/30 specs.
We don't really know what the "MO" was, (there are multiple theories) but apparently they felt the need to put more dates on rifles.
It's a nice, uncommon rifle.

Re: first mosin
You have one nice clean refurb ex dragoon. The MO although unknown is a cool collector mark. The box with the slash on the stock is a Ukrainian refurb mark. I have one myself, can't remember if if it is a 26 or 27 right now. But no MO. You did good for the first one...now you will have to post pics of the next one cause they are like pringles...or maybe Ruffles. You can't just have one.

Am I the only one who spotted feet
That is a great looking rifle. I have a 26, but an MO to boot. What a great find.

The marking to the right of the bow and arrow is the MO mark.ryanr24 wrote:Excuse my ignorance but what is an mo and what /where should i be looking
As to what it means, we don't really know.

Very nice rifle. I like the 20s versions, the MO is an extra bonus. Congrats!

Re: first mosin
Nice piece of history you have there! It's a 1942 Izhevsk in rushed wartime production finish. Lots of history in these war time produced rifles. The rough machining should not be confused with poor metal quality, rather just not pretty! Let us know how it shoots!

In the third picture, the part that has the star indicated that that part was manufactured in the Tula arsenal, it is a part added as a repair, or during refurbishment.

Re: first mosin
Very cool and welcome to the forum.
That a nice one for the first (and by the looks of it - many more to come). I particularly like the shank stampings on the Pre-1928's.

Re: first mosin
You did very good. That black paint on the muzzle was instant bluing by the Russians refurbishing this rifle. Don't get tempted and try and "fix it". Just clean it set the firing pin depth give it a headspace check, oil it and shoot it like you stole it.

Re: first mosin
It appears you bought the first, then about a month later bought the second. Before you proceed, search the forum for "Mosinitis" and read carefully.
