Cleaning barrel frustration (T53)
Cleaning barrel frustration (T53)
So I saw a bit of what seems rust inside the barrel of my T53. I then grabbed my trusty brass brushes, bottle of hoppes 9, and rags, and proceed to rub the inside of the barrel for quite while... until brush was feeling rather loose. I then wet a rag with hoppes and ran inside the barrel; it was dark as I expect. I then used bore's snake to clean that residue and looked into the barrel: at least as far deep as I can see (not that deep mind you) the rust-looking thing still exists.

Looks rather like copper fouling. Let the Hoppes soak longer. I wouldn't worry about it much.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

You may think I'm crazy, but I believe that is a worn land and groove. Rotate the barrel and take another pic.

First, get that dam dog or cat hair off the bore! (about 7 o' clock....)
Then get a good copper solvent, and use a .32/8mm phosphor bronze brush, or better yet same size stainless steel brush, and apply elbow grease vigorously. Should cure your problem.

invasion, butcher a hog, design a building, conn a ship, write a
sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the
dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve an
equation, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a
computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

That would be a cat. If she had her way she'd be helping me clean the firearms...entropy wrote:First, get that dam dog or cat hair off the bore! (about 7 o' clock....)![]()
Call me weird but I feel really uncomfortable using a steel brush in the barrel.entropy wrote:Then get a good copper solvent, and use a .32/8mm phosphor bronze brush, or better yet same size stainless steel brush, and apply elbow grease vigorously. Should cure your problem.
What would be a good copper solvent? Only gun cleaning chemicals I have at home are these guys:

Re: Cleaning barrel frustration (T53)
Start with the Hoppes first, it's the most gentle of those two. If that doesn't get out what your want give a try with the Sweets. Sweets does work really well just make sure to follow the directions and not let it sit in the bore too long.
