Wrong price Mosins... Ex PE Sniper

Post by Rongo »

Was out & about yesterday & stopped in at the local Fleet Farm. Saw they had Mosin's on sale & I asked the guy at the counter to look at the one behind the glass. He pulls it out & hands it to me. Turns out it's a 1930 Izhevsk 91/30, all matching numbers, post war stock & all the goodies for $84.99. Well who am I to argue?! I said I'd take it. Distributors want more plus the cost of shipping. Good deal in my book!

After the paperwork was done, Manager walks me to the front to pay. Rings up at $99.99 just as the guy who did the paperwork walks by. He verifies the price was actually $84.99 on the tag. They re-check, turns out someone put the sale tag on the 91/30 but it was actually for a 440 round tin of 7.62x54! Manager apologizes, Gives me the gun for the sale price AND knocks off $5 for my troubles... Hex 91/30 for $79.99. :D

So I figured I would check the store down the road. Walked in, found a 35 Tula 91/30 for $99. Not bad. Guy behind the counter brings out 4 more... A 44 Tula, 43 Izhevsk, 39 Izhevsk & another 35 Tula in a pre-war stock with interesting repairs. I really liked the last 35 Tula so I opted for that. Besides, they sell the nice Liberty Arms imports... Not Century. Much nicer condition & bores on the ones I've seen.
Went to ring it up, price was $179.99. I said no, the price of the one on the floor was $99. He checks, agrees & gives it to me for that price. Didn't really matter since they price match Fleet Farm anyway. I may go back for that 44 Tula though. You don't see those everyday. So what are the odds that the whole neighborhood has no clue how to price a Mosin???

So I cleaned them today & snapped some pics...

Is the 30 Izhevsk an Ex-dragoon, or an original 91/30? Either way, not an easy year to find.

Nice pair of rifles, that's a good day of shopping right there!

Me either... I didn't notice the splice until after the paperwork was done. That & I missed the fact the 35 Tula is indeed an ex-sniper. My eyes must be going... :?

No it's not. 1930 was the first year for the 91/30... Although I've seen some 1929 Tula's out there. Only 30,000 Izhevsk's were made the first year & 72,000 Tula's. I also have a nice 30 Tula as well.

I might go back for the 44 Tula on Friday. Another hard to find year.

Dragoons were made concurrently with 91/30's from 1930-1932, so it could be an ex-dragoon.

You had a great day shopping, Rongo!

It gives hope and encouragement to those seeking desirable units from the masses of 91/30 refurbs. Little gems are out there, as you proved.

No gap present. I'm always on the hunt for an ex-dragoon. It's one I have yet to obtain for the collection.

I would go back and check the '44 Tula. Most likely its an ex sniper. Even rarer if it a plain 91/30.
Nice catch on the '35 ex sniper!

A 1930 Izhevsk 91/30 is also a rare beast! Make sure there is no cosmoline filling up the gap. Also look at the rear sight from the front. Is the front of the dovetail rounded or square?

Must be nice to have Gushops like that in your area.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

New Shipments arrive every Thursday where I got the Ex-Sniper. I'm hoping to get there tomorrow to see what came in. They sometimes get M39's by mistake. They sell them for $179 like the rest of the 91/30's... Plus they price match the competition down the road at $99.99. I'm feeling lucky. 8-)

If you find an M39 for $99 pick one up for me - I don't have one yet! :o
