Took Some Pics: SKS-M

Post by martin08 »

I was considering a possible trade a few days ago, so I took some pics of one of my SKS-M's. Haven't heard "Boo" from the guy since I sent them. So, why waste an opportunity to show it off? 1989 import, thumbhole stock model, and 30 rd Bulgarian mag.

Some shooters can't adjust for the shoulder height, LOP, and thumbhole grip. But this style fits me just fine. Fun guns. Thanks for looking!

Were all of the "M"s short barreled or is that a paratrooper M? 8-)

The first AK-mag conversion models were full length and had the bayonets attached. These were called the SKS-D, Type 84, and Mid-West conversion. Then the George HW Bush assault weapons ban was enacted, and subsequent models came out with the bayonet lugs neutered. The SKS-M was born in the late 1980's and was imported until Clinton stopped all Chinese imports in late 1994.. Other versions are the SKSS, and the MCD-5 models.

A very select few of these bayo-less guns did come in full length. But those are extremely rare. 99% of them are found in the paratrooper length and in either the thumbhole or monte-carlo style stock. Here is a pic of my collection of AK-mag guns.

Great guns Martin! A little bird tells me you have over 50 SKS's so you are most encouraged to keep posting more pics. I have the lonely single 1951 refurb Russian, in the black painted bolt, and man oh man, is it ever a great shooter. My brother the other day bought a Yugo, but it isn't refurbed, and has the grenade launcher built on, and I love the look of the non-refurbed models. Not much blueing left, but no rust or pitting, and just a great color all over including the stock. I'd sure like to talk him out of it!

If you fellows wouldn't mind seeing some SKS's, from run-of-the-mill Chicoms up to multi-thousand dollar exotics, then I hope you don't get bored before I get through the vault! It's going to take some time....

I've seen some of them from lurking the SKS boards, but I think I speak for all of us when we say "Post em up!"
