Possible gun trade deal. Need your advice.

Post by A J »

I'm talking to a guy online about possibly trading his Remington 870 Wingmaster for my Ruger Mark II Target .22 pistol. I haven't even seen his shotgun yet, so don't know much about it. The one photo I saw looks pretty good.

My Ruger MK II:
- blued finish with slight wear
- excellent shape
- clean
- possibly 1,000 rounds fired through it
- hogue grips, 3 mags
- 5.5" bull barrel

So what do you guys think on the surface? Fair deal?

Thanks in advance.

I see 870s in pawn shops for 250-300 all the time. MkIIs seem to bring a little more. That said if you are happy with the deal, do it. Maybe if he had some ammo to throw in.

A decent Wingmaster can be found reasonably priced in a lot of places. A Ruger Mk II is no longer made and with that low a round count should be LNIB. Personally I'd say no.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Thanks guys. I'm leaning toward not doing the trade. I still may check out the wingmaster. We'll see.

The Ruger Mark II is a fine pistol, especially with a bull barrel. The Remington 870 is a fine pump shotgun. Both nice, but totally different firearms, and while the Ruger might be slightly more expensive, it isn't by much. So what do you like shooing better? Shotgun or 22 pistol?

I would never trade my MK II for a shotgun, well maybe a trap model Benelli.

Me neither, I would keep the Ruger unless I just hated it, but assuming I liked shooting it I would keep it and buy a shotgun when I was able.

I've decided not to pursue the trade. I'm keeping the MK II. The guy was kind of flaky anyhow. He could have been trouble.

Good decision. No one needs added trouble.
