1937 Mosin Nagant

Post by Leed709 »

Visited a local gun shop today and they had about ten 91/30 in rack. Most were in the fourty, but 3 were in thirty. There was a 1937, 1938 and a 1939. All were round receivers Izhevsk. Almost bought the 1937,rifle looked good but the crest on the receiver had been ground off. Why would someone grind off the crest and leave all the rest of markings? I ended up buy ing the 1929.

Ive seen a few '37s with ground crests that are fairly close in serial number. I own one. Was it a refurb? Im not sure why it was done to those particular rifles.
