1961 Albanian 91/30

Post by cj1964 »

1961 Albanian 91/30 is the last new production Mosin Nagant.

There isn't a lot of information available on the Albanian version of the 91/30 and I have no idea how many of them were made. Mine is numbered 0094 and appears to be unissued and basically in unfired condition. The surface and bore have been cleaned, but there is a lot of dark brown grease in the bolt, receiver and under the rear sight leaf. I'm not going to take this apart for photos and I'm not going to be cleaning it any more than it currently is.

The differences between a Russian and Albanian version are all very subtle. One difference is the rear sight is a sleeve attachment vs. the soldered version.

The magazine also seems to have a longer front "tongue" than the other varieties. My floorplate appears to be numbered 0097.

I believe it has the original dog collars, but no sling. The collars are unmarked and overall the rifle is devoid of inspection or identity marks.

I've included a couple comparison photos next to a typical Russian 91/30 refurb. Note the different (rounded) riser for the stripper clip to slide into. Also, the rear cocking knob is much smaller in diameter.

I've read about the stock differences on the rear paddle, but I don't really see much difference between the two. Note the Albanian is shown above the Russian refurb. The comb is just a bit higher and the stock is overall a bit wider than the Russian version.

The front sight is basically identical to the other variants and the cleaning rod has straight serrations.

There are a few photos and some minor notes on the internet: http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinM9130A.htm
My rifle has a few blemishes in the blueing and a couple scrapes on either side of the rear paddle - possibly from shipping. I haven't seen this variety of Mosin Nagant posted very often (in any condition), so perhaps it would be worthy of adding to the showcase until a nicer specimen shows up online.
Thanks!!
