1936 Finn captured m91/30.

Post by Lee-online »

I just got this one expecting nothing special but want it to sit alongside my scw and refurb 1936's. I finally opened the box and much to my surprise, it is a beautiful piece of Finnish craftsmanship. Shipped to my front door for $208, I think I scored what I believe is going to be a superb shooter.

It has been refurbished, all trigger parts, rear sight, extractor and cleaning rod are that purple looking blue, stock is still the Russian one piece and has been worked to fit the action with plenty of shims. This is likely the first time I has been apart since leaving Finland, no marks on the screws and still covered in a greasy substance. After inspecting I felt no need to clean so put it back together.

Most of the parts are Izhevsk and a few Tula but the bolt body is a Chatellerault. My second Chatellerault bolt body with one on my M28.

So, here it is.....

Looks like a name was put on before the refurb. I wonder if it is Finnish or Russian.

This would fit into the SCW serial numbers but this is a Finn capture rifle.
Image

I really like the purple bluing.

Bolt mark. It is number matching on the knob.
Image

I have seen the 3600 pressure proof on the Finnish rifles but not on a 91/30.
Image

[SA] and D marked on the right side but upside down.
Image

Shims, this one is stuck to the recoil lug but fell off. There is a witness mark so I know where it goes. This is why JYD always says to be careful when removing the stock.

Hard to see but not much meat left, it has been thinned out.

Wow! When you said there were plenty of shims, you weren't kidding! Nice!

Nice find. Somebody tool a good deal of time with that rifle to make a shooter out of it as evidenced by the shims.

Anyone seen the 3600 mark on a m91/30?

I thought you would have bid on this one. Pictures were not the best but enough to see it was a nice rifle. Don't you collect 1936's.

I saw your two [SA] 1936 Tulas in the showcase but didn't see a 36[SA] Izhevsk in there.

The Finns sure put a lot of work into this one, I wonder why? I also realized they left the post and globe on there and didn't replace it with a barleycorn?

Got another surprise when I just got home, a long box on my doorstep. My WZ-48 showed up.

Very nice, congrats! :Drool1: 8-) Definitely weren't kidding about the abundance of shims on her! I'm no expert but the writing doesn't look Russian to me so I'm going to go with it being Finn. I'm sure someone with more Russian experience will come along soon & set us straight.

I already got my 1936 Finns Lee ,( 36 Izhevsk, 36Tula round,36 Tula hex).

Now if it had been a 36 Finn'ed ex-sniper, well it would have been game on! ;mywink;

I have been looking into this 3600 mark and there are a few m91/30s with it and as stated by Vic, the Finns checked the rifle for excessive pressure. Probably after a repair or a random check.

Finnish, no doubt about it. Looks like K. H. or J. H. to me, the latter letter being definately H.

Ah, I see now. At first I thought it was 4 letters but now I see the K-H. The scratch over the - made it look like another letter.

So these are likely the initials of whomever was issued this rifle.

Nice rifle Lee, I have a Finn capture 91/30, not sure if it's in a Finn stock, or in the Russian stock, I'll have to look when I get home, that has the 3600 pressure mark on it.
