Gras 11mm X 59R CALIBER Rifle, MODEL 1874 M80, ST ÉTIENNE MA

Post by varifleman »

Here for your perusal is my Gras Model 1874/80 11mm rifle. Any help with the various proof/acceptance marks welcome since I'm new to French firearms. I seem to recall that the "Made in France" stamp indicates rifles France supplied to Czarist Russia in WWI and the Repulican Government during the Spanish Civil War. The rifle also looks like it has a Russian Berdan II rifle cleaning rod.

Very nice example! You are correct about the France/Russia/Spain connection reflected in the Made in France stamp.
On Facebook? Check out the non-sporter preservationist group at: OOOPS. Deleted by Facebook because it's evil to even discuss collectible firearms on social media these days.

Very nice, I just bought a bayonet for that rifle a few days ago. The Gras is on my list of rifles to load for if I ever get time. :)
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
