First O/U on the way

Post by BuckeyeSgt »

I had tried out a few rounds of skeet using a buddy's shotgun and got hooked. I really wanted a Browning Citori but just couldn't make myself drop that kind of change. I put in an order for a CZ Readhead last night. Can't wait to give it a go.

Those are very nice.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I couldn't get used to it and traded it off for a H&R Garand, WW2 rebuilt M1903, and a FN49 Egyptian contract 8mm. Beretta 686 trap special back in the 90's

I think you are right about it being addictive. I went with the 20 since my only other shotgun in a 20. I can shoot more and I guess I will have to try harder to get good at it.

Not around here, 12 gauge rules the roost, 20 can be hard to come by, I always ended up sending away for it when needed, 410 also, forget about 16, or 10.

Man thanks for posing that link.I have not even considered a CZ or even thought about one.I think you made a great buy the browing is great but you can learn on the CZ and move up when you know all the rules.

I have been casually looking at over and unders and the Winchester SX3 Auto 12ga for my daughter, she has really really got to where she likes shooting clays she just started the 9th grade.

Most all the high schools here in Tennessee and North Alabama have High School trap teams.

She has shot about 400 rounds of the Walmart Winchester 12ga $19.99 for 100 rounds, since about 4th of July. You can get 20 ga at wallyworld for the same price. It is good enough ammo to learn on.

Right now she is in the learning stages about clay shooting.I just have been using a hand thrower in the back yard.Last week she busted 16 out of 19 at one point.Moving pretty fast and at differest angles.

She has been using my grandpa's old Winchester 1400 mk2 made in 1968.She loves it.She has also used my Browning A5 light 20 but much perfers the Winchester.

Here is the Winchester I am looing at. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/prod ... +4%2B1+Cap

That looks nice. I did a lot of trap as a kid. I used my dad's old Stevens model58 20ga bolt action. I still have that shotgun.

That is nice Drew. I have access to a Browning Citori that resides in my brother's safe, but honestly I grab the older we'll worn in Charles Daley that was made by Miroku in Japan. It has both barrels choked as improved cylinder and the gun just flat shoots. They were our dad's guns and my brother hangs onto them since our dad passed in 98. I have in my safe his favorite, the Remington 1100 lite 20, and then recently acquired the 12 Ga 1100 so together they make a nice pair.
So, where are you going to be shooting it? There is a nice Sporting Clays range at the Dallas range, Elm Fork that you need to experience. It is a total blast, albeit a somewhat expensive hobby.

Those are all nice shotguns there Russell. Alpine has some ranges. And there is a place a little west of me too. I've never done the sporting clays. Sounds fun though.

Is Buds known for slow shipping?

While you were investigating O/U shotguns, did you ever investigate side-by-sides? This is on my to purchase list. But I know little about them. I just like the mechanics of how they work.
Congrats on your purchase. Looks like fun.

Have you guys ever gone to Academy and looked at Yildiz shotguns? They are Turkish walnut doubles that are very nice at 400-700 bucks depending on bells and whistles.

I looked at them. For the price they seem pretty good. I almost got one. But I thought the CZ would hold more of its value.

Cat, I don't know what it is but sxs's just don't do it for me.

I just got back from a weekend trip to the St. Louis area. While there running around I stopped by place just south of there in ILL. where they were having some type of world championship trap shoots. I never knew so many people were that into shooting. The shooting area looked to be stretched out 2 miles wide.

I saw the billboards but didn't have time to go this year.

When I saw your comment about 2 miles of shooters I figured that may be a teeny exaggeration and went hunting for some details on the venue. Well, I shall eat crow, the area consists of 120 trap fields and covers THREE AND A HALF miles!

7000 shooters and 100,000 spectators!

Nice. But why the tease? Surely you must have more film in that camera for more pictures.
