Re: One of my M39's
In '08 that was still a premium. However, nothing like the premium it would bring today. I am just thankful that I am in your will because I could never afford it otherwise.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Those stocks make me ill every time I see them! Ha ha! I got you though as I have a tiger striped 91/59 now! That at least gives me some source of solace I guess.

Frak me, now I'm on a mission to find a good tiger striped rifle. I thought I had a couple nice ones until you showed yours.

Rifle #1 is stunning, when I scrolled down the shock of seeing it thru me back in my chair, no... really it's that stunning, WOW what a gem of a Model 39

Agreed. The stock on number 4 has a sheen to it where my M39s do not. Did preserve or oil your stock with anything?

Is the tiger striping on rifle no.4 the way it was cut from the tree? Also the grain patterns are very evident. Birch?
Wonder what it would look like gently stripped of all varnish and then lightly oiled and polished.

All the rifles you are looking at do not have a natural sheen. These were wiped with lemon oil when I got them years ago and photoed them. They were wiped down after and are the same as a regular M39 stock of that year. However, the stripes are still there, just not shinny is all. None of the stocks have been altered, and only have what the Finns put on them. Some people don't like the "shine" and I have photos both ways. Not much difference though.
I can't imagine going to war with one of these things in my hands. I'd be afraid to mess it up!
I like #4. straight stock, original finish, PL marked, antique receiver, and of coarse...the flames.
#1 looks like the back side of a fiddle. They are sometimes refereed to as a fiddle back stock also.
All of them (even #2 and #3) are arctic birch.

VKT
1942 VKT (Valmet)
99% (plus) original blue
matching barrel, bolt & floor plate
War time stock
1894 antique Chatterault receiver
Like new bore
Finding a VKT with any stripes was a little harder of a find.

Only 2 more to go! when I get them set up, I'll post them....maybe tonight or tomorrow.
