Mounted Springfield Model 1842 Percussion Musket

Post by jones0430 »

This is the Springfield Model 1842 percussion musket that my grandfather obtained somewhere in the mists of time.

I finally got a cabinet maker to construct a cabinet, and I just recently mounted it on my office wall.

Nice job, just make sure you have an up to date security system, these muskets have a significant dollar value attached to them today. Eye candy to a thief. What is the condition of the rifle?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Age patina, naturally. No rust. I don't know it the firing tube is clear. It might be fireable, but I am happy if it's only a wall hanger.

That is a fitting tribute to an amazing piece of American history. That is a beautiful display case.
