1942 Finnish VKT M91 yard sale find and a bonus
Longcolt44 taunted me with a M27 at a recent Ohio Gun Collector's Association meeting, so I had to go out and find another Finnish Mosin to add to the collection. I got lucky a week later at a yard sale. A friend of mine gave me a heads up about some gun parts, so we went and I bought the parts that they had before the yard sale started. After I got the parts, they brought out a couple long guns, a Garand and a Krag, which both needed stock work. I passed on those, and they brought out another long gun, specifically a High Standard police issue riot gun with a bayonet lug/heat shield on it which I bought. The bayo lug is the one made in the 60s for the US Army to go on the Stevens model 77E, the majority of the bayo lugs were surplused off to police departments as the war in Vietnam wound down. The bayo lug was installed on this shotgun by the department, but the old guy I bought it from couldn't remember which police department he bought it from. It still bears the rack number stamped into the buttstock and receiver. As I was getting ready to leave, the old man had his son bring out another rifle. He said it was a Finnish Mosin, and my ears perked up real quick. What I saw walk out of the house was a nearly unissued condition M91 with a 1942 dated, VKT marked barrel complete with sling and bayonet. I bought it too, then I had to leave because I was afraid they would bring more out, and my wallet was tapped. It was a good day all around other than spending all my cash. I had to heavily crop some of the photos to get the file size small enough to upload, one of these days I'll figure out this new camera of mine.

Devil brought this in to the shop to show off this prize. Everything that I could see had the old Tula hammer on it and the condition including the bore was in very good condition. I do have first call on this if and when he decides to go in another direction.

I was told that there were a whole lot more guns in the house, hundreds of them, and at least 200 rounds of ammo for each one. The old guy is selling what he feels like, when he feels like it. I might have to sell a kidney before I go back, they said that they would call when he wanted to sell more......

Nice rifle and it sounds like a nice lead on some more

Yard sale huh? Where have I heard that before? Hmmm, it's right on the tip of my tongue. That is a fine plum colored receiver.

It was a friend of a friend. I got the heads up a couple days beforehand, but I was expecting to just go buy the gun parts. nothing was said about complete guns. I'm just afraid that something might happen to the old man and his sons will offer to sell me all the guns and ammo, then I'll need loans and/or donations!

Very cool. Sounds like you may have found your own private honeypot for milsurps.

Devil,
Not sure what kind of a camera you have, but on mine if i turn it on,then press the Func Button,on the left i see Auto then below it vga,if i go down to the vga setting, then i can go to the right for size.640x480 move to the right,i can go 10m picture(which is very big) down to 2m(smaller)If you set it for the vga 640x480,that picture is not as defined, but it is small enough to import the whole picture directly into a post. You will have to set it before you take the pictures.
Love the M91,great looking rifle.

Well Nathan Bedford I would say you surrounded a great source with a small force of money and if you need reinforcements I am here if called upon! I will even give you my horse holders if necessary! At your service sir! Great catch by the way! Bill

Nice haul, so your wallet was empty, you could have traded your car and called a friend to take you home with the pile of guns

Well, I'm thinking that the old guy was testing the waters to see how his stuff would sell, and I am going to sell both of these along with some others, and go back and see what else I can buy.
