If anyone's familiar with Williams guns on the innerweb, they only show one profile pic of the right side and very little description. They had this listed has a Mosin Nagant M38 with 20.5 inch barrel for $199.95. Called them, bought it and didn't really ask any questions thought it looked pretty clean for the price.

Got it in today and It's a 91/59, little disappointed because I don't have a M38, but I don't have a 91/59 either so far the price I will keep it and not complain to seller.
Minty shine in bore, best mosin trigger I've squeezed and very nice wood. Headspace checked out great even with the mismatched bolt. All other s/n's matched even the stock s/n.

Just be happy it wasn't an M44 that some bubba ground off all the bayonet fixtures and reblued. The 91/59s are some of the best shooters in the Mosin family.
This is what happens when a lazy seller fails to do their homework before selling something. I work long hours making absolute sure this never happens to me. One picture, really, in the age of digital photography, even my .99 items have 12 pictures on eBay, or GB. Very nice score!
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

You did great! How many times do we see a rifle advertised as a M91 and then "see" its a 91/30. MHO would be the 91/59 is a bargain for a great looking rifle.
Ended up being a good deal. I wouldn't complain either. The guy that sold me my 91/59 also called it an m38.

It is just a simple matter of many people not even knowing a 91/59 even exists. You got a harder to find collectible Mosin in my opinion which happens to be a very nice one too.
I saw that one and never considered it was something else but an M-38. But, there was just something about it though, perhaps the pristine stock and the rear sight. The thought 91/59 came to mind... Don't worry about the bolt not matching. I have one very similar to this that doesn't match but, for me at the time, it was just to Purdy to pass up and I still feel that way. I had a discussion with one of our forum members about it but the discussion quickly zeroed in on the company. Evidently, in the past, the were known to skim off the cream for themselves or for high end collector friends and sell the rougher ones. It looks as if this time, they fooled themselves.
I would expect some regular seller to not know what it was if they weren't a Mosin collector, but for a business that specializes in firearms sales not to know, that's inexcusable. This time the seller gets a great deal, the company loses, who cares it's their problem, but next time it could go the other way, they sell someone something that isn't what it's supposed to be, then it becomes an ordeal of return shipping, disappointment, phone tag with the seller. Like selling a M48 Mauser and calling it a German K98k from WW2, poor pictures don't allow you to see what you are buying, before you buy something like this from people who are too lazy to post more than one or two pics, request more pics. They want your business and your money they should be willing to work for it. I have sent as many as 100+ pics to someone who was buying a car from me long distance, even video.

In my eyes, this is one of the best looking Mosins I've seen in a long time. I'm a sucker for blonde stocks. That thing is freaking flawless. Looks like in never left the factory.
