Advice

Post by mitch5690 »

So I came a rifle a very serious collector is interested in for his collection. He's been very patient and offered a few interesting rifles as trade and will honestly Say I'm a little overwhelmed

First is a 1931 tikka m27 with the Popsicle stick front band.

Second is a 1941 PL marked sako

Third is a 1917 SA marked Carl Gustavo swede

1898 civil gaurd marked Tula m91, non scrubbed

Lastly a 1894 chat AZF marked, one eagle is peened but stock has been lightly sanded and missing an extractor.

I plan on picking one but not really sure where each stands on collectibility, rarity.

Good Lord Mitch. That is a impressive list. What do you have that he wants to trade for? It must be nice.

A Finn PU that someone refinished the stock and added a scope and bent the 91/30 added bolt? Almost all Finn stamped PU snipers here in the US are fakes. Without seeing yours it's fairly safe to assume it's not the real deal. Your not intent on taking the guy to the cleaners are you???

I posted two pics on gun boards about a rifle I wanted and he sent me an email before I even got it to buy it. I sent him every picture he requested and he's been collecting Finns for 8 years, I'm going off his opinion it's real.

My first thought is a very personal one so keep that in mind. If he wants a Finn to restore as a non in this country (almost anyway) existent sniper that is Finn marked how will he be presenting that for sale someday? With that thought in mind what kind of work has he done on what he is trading you for it?

Next a quick question, What model is an 1941 PL marked Sako, assuming an M39 right?

I would go with the Chatellerault as first choice even with a pinged marking because of the small amount of them offered up for sale even lately. Another thing you failed to mention and is something you should ask and consider is if they are matching. Ask well thought out questions calmly and find out what his thoughts are in wanting the rifle you have and ask if he would care if you divulge his identity and what he got from you after the trade is done. It will be noted by my comments at this stage in life I am an old non-trusting soul but that is my cross to bear I guess. I believe I have been mislead (that is the polite way to say scammed) by the best of them and I would bet many of you know them and may indeed respect them. I grew up in the collector field and have known and respected many of these people for years but there are always a few that kind of scare you at times. Just hold your ground and speak your piece and proceed carefully only if you wish too. Good Luck Bill ;mywink;

He's been very truthful about the rifles he had. I would hope he would be totally truthful at a later point if he decides to sell it. That being said that's between him and himself, he's also a well standing gun boards member.

Sounds like you are weighing the issues well! Good Luck and I hope you enjoy the rifle you decide on! Or if you opt out and go with what you have Good Luck that way too! Bill
