Which one of them white specs I see are you talking about? I could maybe see a building that far but hit it? I seriously doubt it!

You should plug in some info into a ballistic calculator that you can find online. It is nothing short of rediculous to even consider it. At 500 meters you can get bullet drops of around 5 feet! That is like aiming at the head and hitting below the knees. Move on out to 1000 meters, and the trajectory gets completely insane. Some bullets 30 feet, some as much as 60 feet? Then you talk about doubling that to 2000 meters? There is a video on Youtube of a guy shooting tracer rounds at a telephone pole at like a thousand yards or something in low light. The trajectory is just stupid. I will see if I can find it. It will take a lot more than jacking your rear sight blade to #20 in order to hit any kind of target smaller thn a 2 story house with a Mosin.

Re: Curious
Back in those days, the thought behind those extended range sights was to use them for harassing fire........sort of like mini-howitzers. Get your squad/platoon/company to start lobbing shots into "those woods over yonder" and you're likely to hit something........if you don't, at least you'll have them dancing and looking for toilet paper. As far as accuracy......I suppose a really good marksman might take it out to around 1k, but lets face those v notch sights are NOT real great compared to M1/14/16 sights, or scopes.

Wow....veered way off topic here lol!
I didnt really expect anyone to answer "yes" to my question...was just looking at my 91/30's rear sight and wondering since it dials to 2000m if anyone has ever tried it.
I understand bullet drop, and the overall ridiculousness of trying in the first place....but thats what makes it fun right? Id try it if I had 1 1/4 miles of open land

I've got 3 in the rack I'd love to stretch out like that just to see. But there's no where near me in these woods to do it...except the 4 lane highway... But seriously, if I ever find a place to do it, I'll do it. The nearby Army base shut their long distance range down to the public a few years ago.

I know that in the '60's @ PI the rifle team shot iron sights on the range there @ 1000 yds, and I would imagine that the Army team was doing the same down in South Georgia.berkmberk1 wrote:20+ years ago, when I was on the HP rifle team, we shot a 1000 yrd course of fire. NM M14, heaavy barrel, equally heaavy stock, NM ammo...I could hit 12" or less four out of five times. That was fun! What wasn't fun was walking 1000 yds to the pits, and then back again when it was over. I used to be able to hit the 10 ring every time at 500 yds with a proper battle sight zero on a straight old M16 (provided no wind). Now, I have to wear glasses to shave

This guy made a 1000 yd shot, albeit he had a custom sight post.
