Found 2 Mausers, both messed with?

Post by bocephus »

I've been wanting to get a South American 30-06 and my buddy let me know the local shop had one. But it looks like someone sanded the stock and that'd be a no go for me. Crappy cell pics will be posted below. The thing that stuck out the most is the big blond streak and that the front of the stock near the barrel bands is in typical "beat up" shape.

#2 - Matching BCD Mauser in a sporter stock. Don't care about the stock because they only want $200 for it. I'll sell the stock or burn it. Problem is I think it's been reblued. The blueing is perfect and the stamps are hard to read like they've been filled in. This would be another no go for me. Picture below of that too, let me know what you think.

This is the Colombian 30-06

Definate reblue on the bcd4. Sanded stock on the Columbian, hard to tell from fotos but sure looks like it is :angry4:

It doesn't look like you have a lot to work with here.

Both not good, maybe good shooters? All depends on the price. The BCD is in my opion not worth 200$, reblued for sure.

the 30.06 is also a combined piece, possibly a remaining part build.

If the bore is good on the 30.06 and price is good just use it as a shooter.
For collection a BIG NO in my eyes.

They want $275 for the 30-06. I've been keeping my eye out for one but keep getting outbid. I'm not going to bother with this one, I'll just hold out and keep looking.

These are not collectable, they are just firearms, rifles, same as any other commercial sporter. I buy these if the price is right, they go into a special storage reserved for use as lone out rifles for range trips were I am with pistol shooters who do not own a long gun. They are also good for trade items when trying to get a milsurp away from someone who just wants a hunting rifle, .30-06 chambering would make that easier.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
