What's your 2 cents
What's your 2 cents
So been looking around the local gun shops on vacation and narrowed it down to three/four possible interests.
First is a 44 Sako m39 the guys asking 395 but seems eager to sell and I'd try to get it lower. Everything matches he says besides the mag well, which also is a totally different grey silver than the barreled receiver which is almost perfet blueing.
Second is a 1916 ishvesk M91 what still has the czarist eagles intact, a serbian crown and is SA marked, stocks a little rough but better than the typical bulkand m91. Nice bluing, I'm guessing Finn redone. Not sure on what matches, but it does have sling hangers, cleaning rod and and the handgaurd. I got it down to 279 if I buy it.
Third is a 1942 Swedish husky m38, all matching and in beautiful shape. Asking 450 but I'm sure I could get it for 400.
Lastly is a 1943 Romanian used 91/30 they want 140 and offered to let it go for 120 when I set it back down. I could prob get it for 100-110 very mismatched and if I got this is be in combo with the m91 or the m39 if I get it on the lower end of 300's
So I'm jut curious between the m91, m39 or the m38, anything that's a amazing find or defiantly a better buy in your opinion.

Re: What's your 2 cents
I had to reread the details on the fourth rifle, for a second I thought you had found a true Romanian 91/30
It depends on the holes in your collection, I have the M39's and M91's so I would probably go for the Swede, I hear their pretty nice.

The Swede would be at the top if I were into them. The M39 maybe not the best deal but the best rifle out of the Mosins.

Re: What's your 2 cents
What would I have to get the m39 for, for it to be a deal?
Re: What's your 2 cents
for the M39, free would be great! but seeing how were in the real world 350 or lower would be a deal
Re: What's your 2 cents
For comparison Pat Burns (gunsnammo.com) is showing a nice B barrel for 399 and a VKT for 379. Your Sako for 395 out the door would not be a steal, but not to bad. You can occasionally see someone steal one on GB in the 275 range.

I like the m91s so I would go that route with the 91-30 thrown in for $100. Thats just me though.

Re: What's your 2 cents
M91 first for me. Price just a little high. But it not being scrubbed, it should hold a lot of history, which I love. Mixmaster does not matter. Most are.
M39 next. Maybe. Depending if it "spoke to me" When someone says it's all good except for bla bla bla, you have to ask yourself how much that bothers you. So long story short, depends on how much you like it.
Dealer seems to be in the ballpark on prices. Not sale prices, but not rip off prices either.

I just spoke to the m39 guy, the stock had no cartouches so I tried to get him down but he really didn't budge. So what I think I'll do is try to get a package deal on the m91 and m91/30. I do wanna get a m39 someday though they're really neat.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

My
Buy the one or more that you want! Bill
Re: What's your 2 cents
It would be nice to get them all but hmm I like to look a few days before I buy to avoid impulse purchases and let it sink in.

Re: What's your 2 cents
These are all totally different rifles. Which one do you like most? That is the one you get. But get the 91/30 at that price before someone else does. It don't sound like you are ready for a M39. Usually when someone decides that it is time to buy the finest of all Mosins, they don't get sidetracked by 2 totally different Mosins and a Mauser. Like a bloodhound on the trail of the right M39, and then just looking for a "deal" won't be the determining factor of should you buy it. Nothing wrong with paying a bit more for a rifle you'll not regret owning, but as to this particular Sako I can't say without seeing it.
Re: What's your 2 cents
That's a good point, I like m91 a lot. I really want a m39 but I want one with one of those gorgeous stocks.

Re: What's your 2 cents
Which one to buy is a hard one. It depends on which one fits the direction your collection is goig. Too bad you can't get them all in one place. That way the one that whispers, "I love you.", solves all the questions.
FREEDOM...USE IT OR LOSE IT!!
Re: What's your 2 cents
My 2 cents would be for the M91. I like their markings, history, looks, and the balance when shooting. I like the thin Russian stocks better than the Finn stocks but have some of each and are happy with them all. The 1916 Izhevsk sounds nice.

I'd pick the Husky Swede, I hear a lot about the others but this type Swede doesn't cross your path very often.
