Palmetto State Armory has the ATI TAC PX2 3" 12ga, 18.5 Barrel Tactical Pump Shotgun ATIGTACPX2 on sale this weekend for $99 + shipping (which I think is $15.
Does anyone know anything about the ATI TACs? Are they decent? For $99 bucks, geez, can a person go wrong? I'm tempted to pick one up, but I can't find much info on them.
Here's a link if anyone is interested: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.ph ... acpx2.html
ATI TAC PX2 3" 12ga, 18.5 for a ridiculously low price...
Re: ATI TAC PX2 3" 12ga, 18.5 for a ridiculously low price..
I googled the heck out of it, and all the pics are of the right side of the gun, so I couldn't tell whether it is a twin bar action ala the 870, or single bar. It LOOKS like an 870 clone, but until more is out the on it, <HAL VOICE> I'm sorry, Dr. Chandra, I can't do that.</HAl VOICE> Not even a You Tube vid on it yet; that says something right there.
I'm a little leery of the zinc alloy reciever insert. Most polymer recievered shotguns, (Benelli Nova, Rem. 887, et al) have steel inserts for rigidity. I've never been a big fan of zinc in guns. Great in vitamins, for your nails, but not so much in guns. Re: Jennings, Raven, Bryco, et al. What's really scary is ATI sells an AR-15 reciever that is polymer with a zinc insert.
Personally, I'd pass and find an old rusty but trusty Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, preferably the latter. my
YMMV.

Re: ATI TAC PX2 3" 12ga, 18.5 for a ridiculously low price..
Thanks for the info. I don't have an 18" 12 gauge and I have the Mossberg and Remington on my short list. But when you see deals like this, it makes you do a double take and you wonder if it would be worth it. I will hold out for the Mossberg or Remington because in the long run they are proven and a better value for the money. But, a question... Is the zinc alloy/rigidity issue a matter of the shotgun holding up over time, or reliability, or accuracy or all of the above?
Re: ATI TAC PX2 3" 12ga, 18.5 for a ridiculously low price..
For that money I'd get one just to try out. I bought one of the IAC Hawk ones a couple years ago for $149 and it's been an excellent shotgun. And I also have three AR's that have polymer lowers, not a single problem with any of those....
Re: ATI TAC PX2 3" 12ga, 18.5 for a ridiculously low price..
I think the IAC Hawk is a China North Industries (Norinco) build like my H&R Pardner Pump Protector. Mine is a solid steel receiver and exact clone of a Remington 870 pump. I wouldn't tote it in the field because of the weight, but it is a solid shotgun and shoots the 2 3/4" #4 Buckshot very well out of the 18.5" cylinder bore barrel. It is a great bedroom shotgun.mogunner wrote:For that money I'd get one just to try out. I bought one of the IAC Hawk ones a couple years ago for $149 and it's been an excellent shotgun. Yep, it's an 870 clone as well. They actually have more steel in them than the 870's do now since they started using MIM parts...I've got the adjustable stock/pistol grip setup on mine, these dang long arms of mine play hell in finding anything from the factory that actually has a good fit for me...tjtM38 wrote:I think the IAC Hawk is a China North Industries (Norinco) build like my H&R Pardner Pump Protector. The IAC isn't an exact copy of the 870-though purportedly, some accesories will fit.
As for zinc in guns, it just doesn't hold up. It is used in cheap, small, "throwaway" pistols to keep cost low, and because they usually only see a box or two through them in their lifetime; usually by then they end up in some PD's evidence room to be melted down......
I've seen Jennings, Bryco, Raven, etc. .22, .25, .32, .380 & 9mm's come into shops with cracked slides after 100 rounds or less. Although to be fair, the usual repair needed is replacing a broken firing pin. It usually costs more to fix them than they're worth, so most end up stripped for parts and the frame destroyed.
If zinc alloy parts can't hold up in these calibers, I can't imagine any kind of longevity in a 12 ga.!
Obviously that affects reliability, not sure about accuracy, but in a shotgun, that's not a prime consideration.

Re: ATI TAC PX2 3" 12ga, 18.5 for a ridiculously low price..
The only part that's not a direct fit is the barrel, but you can make a sleeve to go between the barrel ring and the retaining nut and even swap those onto it as well.

Thanks, good info to know.
